Panjabi society (at least the nonIslamic part) is very strict on this.

You can't marry anyone with the same surname as yourself or with your mother's maiden name. I heard not long ago you weren't even allowed to marry someone from your own village because they were considered your brother or sister.

The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.

Can we please aim to be a tad more reserved in our replies? ISW is entitled to ask a question, for that is how we learn! ISW has in no way implied that he/she is planning on marrying a relative so let's all calm down a little please? :)

Lol, can you imagine Guru jee replying to someone with "ummm hell noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" or "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU! thats the most stupidest question iver ever seen on sikh sangat!" :umm:

That's right, and it saved Punjabis from in-breeding and kept the people healthy and strong. Where I come from, it even extended to neighbouring villages within a certain distance.

Hau apraadhi: they definitely did NOT do it back in the day.
