Gurdwara Hemkunt Sahib

Recommended Posts

I have been to hemkunt sahib six times. The first time was in 1995 and i was a small child then  My last trip was about three years back. The place has changed over the years, increase in pollution etc. But the last time i went the weathor was mighty fine and very sunny. The locals said it was best in past 18 years. Here are some pictures i took. The third one is of 'valley of flowers' It is 88 sq. kms. in size. :o You can see the big glacier mountains that border China. You need a full day to explore, but the flowers are till only june. I went in september so no flowers were waiting for me :p

So sorry to hear that :o I've never been there but really hope that one day Guru Ji calls me there. I know some Paaji's that have been there and they say the journey is quite dangerous and alot of rocks from the mountains fall onto the roads. Sangat and vehicles do get affected many times. It's sort of the same when I visited ManiKaran Sahib, I went in August time and it was raining alot which made the roads terrible to drive in and rocks would fall onto the road which made them get blocked off. That's the conditions in and around the mountain areas of India.

vaheguru. bhenjee i went about 2 years ago and the very same day we left, a glacier broke and some rocks totally fell and a bunch of sangat died. When we got to the glacier part before this happened i was pretty scared cause it was a thin route but my mom kept saying if this is were you are meant to die, then happily accept this hukum.

The experience itself was amazanggg :nishaan_sahib_right:

i am going next week. how is the weather up there? should i bring loads of winter gear and jackets etc?

Just take a water proof jacket and some additional clothing with you to keep you warm, including trainers. I went in late july/early august time in 2003 and it was wet and slippery. The conditions weren't perfect when we were on the final ascent. It was cold, wet, and slippery (did I say that before? :p ). We took water (though not enough) and glucose with us to keep us going - though that is up to you. Take note that the bottled water gets more expensive the higher you go up :p

My personal experience is in my blog (link below) - going to finish it off in the next few days!

I hope you have a great time, it was an amazing experience for me :)
