2 Questions Regarding Amritsar.

Recommended Posts

Sikhi is a forward looking religion, there is no need to impose Islamic style traits in banning non-Sikhs from entering Amritsar.

Point 2 is the ideal but in reality will be impossible to monitor.

1) Should non-Sikhs be banned for entering the holy city of Amritsar?

2) Should alcohol and tobacco be banned in the city of Amritsar?

1. No way!

2. Sant Bhindranwale had once demanded that Amritsar should be declared tobbacco free and smoking should be banned. Next day local hindus took out a procession shouting slogans "cigrette beedi piyenge, hum shaan se jiyenge" (we will smoke cigrettes and beedis and live with pride.)

The govt. has banned smoking in many cities in public places, and hindus now have welcomed the decision.

Sant Jarnail Singh never demanded the Amritsar be non-tobacco area personally. It was part ofthe Anandpur Sahib declaration, which requested Holy City Status for Amritsar, which meant that tobacco would be banned. Sant Ji many times said that Amritsar should receivce status same as Hariduar, Mathura, Ayodha etc.
