Guru Ka Singh is defined in the Sikh Rehat Maryada, the above lines from Gurbani should answer your questions. Also this thread is about consumption. Do you eat a tabla? Do you eat shoes? Do you eat belts? etc... please stick to the topic and provide a Shabad that tells us to consume a dead carcass.

"maas maas kar moorakh jhagrhay gi-aan Dhi-aan nahee jaanai. ka-un maas ka-un saag kahaavai kis meh paap samaanay.

gaiNdaa maar hom jag kee-ay dayviti-aa kee baanay. maas chhod bais nak pakrheh raatee maanas khaanay.

farh kar lokaaN no dikhlaavahi gi-aan Dhi-aan nahee soojhai. naanak anDhay si-o ki-aa kahee-ai kahai na kahi-aa boojhai. " ang 1289

"The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom. What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin? It was the habit of the gods to kill the rhinoceros, and make a feast of the burnt offering. Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night. They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom. O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said." This to me says that meat-eating is ok, stop arguing on meat unless you know what meat is: only the Guru knows what meat is. http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Nanak_in_Kurukshetra according to this Sakhi Guru Nanak did cook meat; therefore, consuming meat is ok, and even if it wasn't from what I know this hasn't been agreed upon: are all Nihangs going to hell?

This Shabad DOES NOT tell anyone to go out and eat a dead carcass. Guru Ji is simply pointing out Hindu hypocrisy just like in Hardwar. How many Sikhs do you know throw water towards their fields in Punjab?

only Guru Sahib can give liberation, and if the Guru(through Panj Pyare) say that you can't eat meat, there is the answer: if they say you can that's also the answer. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥੧॥ जीअ जंत सगले बखसिंद ॥१॥ Jī▫a janṯ sagle bakẖsinḏ. ||1|| He forgives all beings and creatures. ||1|| Ang 866 since you are pro-vegan I would like to say merly being a vegetarian can't save you from the paap. The Nkali Nirankaris and the Naamdharis are Vegeterian, but you know what they did. You should see the big picture, that Guru Sahib is not a set of rules, he is the Guru and as such shouldn't be treated as a rule (forgive me for the word I'm about to say, but it's the only way you'll understand) a rule "book"(I hope Guru Sahib could forgive me for using such a derogatory term, but that's how you viewed Guru Sahib). You know the Guru used to hunt, so what's next:"Killing is wrong it's wrong!"

"jee-a baDhahu so Dharam kar thaapahu aDhram kahhu kat bhaa-ee.

aapas ka-o munivar kar thaapahu kaa ka-o kahhu kasaa-ee. (2)

You kill living beings, and call it a righteous action.

Tell me, brother, what would you call an unrighteous action?

You call yourself the most excellent sage; then who would you call a butcher? (2)" ang 1103

You have to get to the point that the Khalsa is Sant Siphai and a Siphai has to kill at certain times.

I'm Pro Gurbani. Yes you are right Gurbani isn't a set of rules BUT, as Sikhs we live by the guidance of Gurbani. Sikhi is a way of life. All aspects of life are covered by Gurbani from birth to death. Which is why Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the one true everlasting Guru. I cannot find anywhere in Gurbani that tells us to eat a dead carcass. I can only find shabads that refrain us from such actions. Just like the Shabad you quoted.

PLEASE CAN YOU OR ANYONE PROVIDE A SHABAD THAT TELLS US TO EAT DEAD CARCASSES. I have asked this many times to no avail.

I thought the first quote of Gurbani that I mentioned explained that meat eating was ok"ਮਃ ੧ ॥ मः १ ॥ mehlaa 1. First Mehl:

Also before we can argue on meat we have to know what meat is? If you asked Guru Nanak himself, he would answer in a very different way than a low-person like me. If you showed the above quote to Guru Gobind Singh Ji about why the Sikhs have war, he would most likely call non-violence impractical (Kabir mentioned it as all killings), but understand we can also kill someone's heart or emotions or could destroy their reputation, so it goes soooooo much more than just not eating an animal, because plants have souls as well. We should have Daya for the animals and the plants,(not just animals), when someone goes to destroy Sikhi will you be saying"No, they were Vegeterian, they won't finish us"(you better believe that there are some Vegeterian organizations who wish that Sikhi would be finished tomorrow).

In the shabad quoted above about it being foolish to argue about meat and flesh, Guru Ji is explaining the hypocrisy of hindu brahmins/pandits just as I explained previously. Giani Takur Singh Ji has done Katha on this shabad. Please go and listen to it. PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THE SHABAD TELLS YOU TO GO AND KILL AN ANIMAL AND EAT IT'S DEAD CARCASS SPECIFICALLY. I just want to know because all I can find is shabads guiding to eat roti, beans, lentils etc... NOT ANIMALS. It is understandable that where there is no other food source available then one would have to hunt and consume a dead carcass. BUT I doubt this is the case for the 99.99999999% of Sikhs. Why show the above quote to Guru Gobind Singh Ji when it was he who dictated the Bani to Bhai Mani Singh Ji. Also please stick to the topic of diet. Thank you.

I'm willing to listen to the Katha, but couldn't find it, please show it to me so I can hopefully get more knowledge on this issue,(I don't really know much about it), I apologize for mentioning the Sant Siphai issue, but a Saint Soldier has to kill! It can't be any other way.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
