Green(harraa) Is Called Blue(neelaa) In Kashmir

Recommended Posts

I have always wondered about the tukk in Sri Asa ki Vaar where Guru Sahib has used the term "neel vastarr" for the clothes worn by muslims. I recently met a kashmiri muslim who is very well educated and at the same time is very closely connected to the kashmiri culture and history. He told me that in Kashmir we call "harraa" as "neelaaa".

He also told me many amazing things about kashmiri singhs. He said that sikhs in PUnjab are so different. He was so much of praise for kashmiri singhs that he said "if I get permisson from allah tallaa to opt for a faith other than islam, I will become a sikh".

The main thing is "You Woke Up"...

We read Gurbaani while we are sleeping...we just say the words and give no importance to their meaning...I'm no different...We "read" like we are cramming for exams at the last moment...And after the exam or "reading" we forget the meaning to the words...They seem like they don't even exist until the next Amrit Vela or Rehras time...And then again, cramming occurs...

But Some words strike the heart and have to be translated to our understanding...they just do...

"Choji Mere Govinda..."

;)

i think your friend is pulling your leg. :) neela doesn't mean green to kashmiri muslims. and even if it did, i don't believe Guru ji was writing in kashmiri dialect.

Guru Gobind Singh ji describes Shiva as "neel kanth". are you suggesting that Shiva has a green throat? but all the idols show blue, right?

oh, and Bhai Vir Singh ji says in Mahan Kosh, p. 381, that neela rang is a blue colour, like the sky but darker. maybe the sky in kashmir is green! :D

actually in older dialects, neela/neel is green

can you give more info? how old? dialects of which language from which region? bhai vir singh ji is a very thorough scholar and would have mentioned a shift in colour between dialects if it were known then, right? mahan kosh by bhai kahan singh nabha ALSO gives the meaning of neela as blue.

i'm not trying to disagree with you, i just want to understand from where this information is coming.

ancient chinese dialects derived from the age old celtic language gae-skriti, commonly spoken of aryan people of bantu descent

that's funny.

Harinder veerji, nice topic!!

Wow, to they still use neela for harra?

Or was it in Guru Jis times?

and that's scary.

and that's scary.

Realli??

Mahan Kosh was just written some time back.. It was complete by 1926. Thats 82 years ago. Guru JI lived between 469 - 539 years ago... SO there is a difference of 389 - 457 years between Guru ji and Mahan Kosh... SO in that time it is highly possible a word's meaning was changed...

so show me some proof of that. you can't say, "mahan kosh is not accurate", unless you show me something that IS accurate. the prophet of doom saying an old kashmiri man said blue means green is not "proof".

WJKK WJKF

my whole family is Kashmiri and we call blue neela....but i dunno if thas cuz my rents choose to go wit the punjabi version...ill ask them next time i talk to them...lol

The shabad in question is asa ki vaar

neel basathr lae kaparrae pehirae thurak pat(h)aanee amal keeaa

Men began to wear blue robes and garments; Turks and Pat'haans assumed power.

The Muslim National Colour is GREEN! All Islamic States have the colour green, all arabs.

Yeah ofcourse muslim royalty and suicide squads wore blue, because blue was a sign of royalty, but the Islamic Flags and Army clothing was GREEN

When Guru Nanak Dev Ji went to Mecca, the muslims gave him a GREEN chola aswell, and look the shabad in asa ki vaar is by Guru Nanak Dev Ji

neel vasathr pehir hovehi paravaan ||

Wearing blue(GREEN) robes, they seek the approval of the Muslim rulers.

Why would you wear the colour of royalty and go to a Muslim Emporer, thats just gna get you in trouble.

    • Is that this Baba Nand Singh ji?
    • Just thought I would translate some of the highlighted parts from these snapshots.   -Sikhi is diminishing and very few practicing sikhs will remain in the future -There will come a time when over four new ideologies will emerge on a daily basis. Sikhs will jump from one ideology to the next. Be it Bhasauria, Radha-Soami, Kuka, Communist (as examples). -People will be easily lured away from their religion -Master Tara Singh is misleading the Sikhs, just like Gandhi. Also, we don’t call him Mahatama as he has no such quality. The people that are blindly following Gandhi and hoping for indepednece will lament one day and feel the British Raj was comparatively better. -These Topi waley will not let you [sikhs] cause any commotion (meaning they will suppress you) -Naam is becoming rare. Hold on to it for your survival. It will flourish one day in the future -Don’t align with any political party -With time, a great man will come who will, with his shakti (power) make these [Indian rulers] bow down. After this a long-lasting rule will start [of the Sikhs]. Gurmukhi letters will be supreme. The counting of 13 will commence [ I believe this refers to a benevolent social structure]. The Parkarma at Harmandir Sahib will be expanded 2 or 3 times its; current width [ hinting at a surge in new Sikhs]. Even the lighting lamp posts will be adorned in gold.
    • does anyone know about the prophecy about china and russia invading india?
