can somebody plz tell daas which 8 bani's in a dass granthi pothi. i know theres jaap sahib, akal ustat, chandi di vaar, gian parbodh, chandi charitar part 1, chandi charitar part 2, but i dont know the other 2...........?????

Originally gutkas were practical ways to learn Gurbani from (as well as being portable and practical from that view point as well). There were punj and das granthi gutkas, containing the said number of works eg Punj Granthi: Japji, Japu, Rehras, Sohila, Anand. Das Granthi: Those plus Shabad Hazare, Sidh Gost, Bhavan Akhar, Sukhmani, Asa ki //.

It was a method that one could aquire Gurbani knowledge in stages. Today the historical names are just that, and such gutkas contain any number of Gurbani, not just what the title neccessarily states.

nahi baba ji. punj granthi is a pothi with exactly 10 bania, no more, no less, all from guru granth sahib ji maharaj.

dass granthi is a pothi with 8 bania, no more, no less. all from sri dasam guru granth sahib ji.

both of these, punj granthi pothi, and dass granthi pothi were hand written and compiled by baba deep singh ji.

i dont know wat laadi fauj is talking about, thats not a dass granthi pothi.

plz singho, lets not make this longer then it has to be.

there are 2 Baramahas by Sri GUru Gobind Singh Ji, Brahm Kavach is a bani supposedly recited by Guru Hargobind Ji, Rakhia de Shabad are sometimes part of Kirtan Sohila, Bhagouti Astotar is from old Buddha Dal Gutkas by Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Thanks very much veerji :)

Ehm.. BRAHM KAVACH.. If that is really of Sixth Patshahi, then why wasnt it included in Guru granth Sahib Ji maharaj when Guru Gobind Singh ji completed the Adi Granth and put 9th Mehls Bani in it?

Maybe Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji's bani is bir rass and not sukh rass? Which maybe why its not included in Guru Granth Sahib Ji?

Also just remembered, Guru Arjan Dev Ji left an exact number of 'empty' angs in Sri Adi Granth, to allow Guru Teghbahdur Ji's bani to be added later on. We got to remember our Guru is only one, not '10 or 11' in a numerical sense. The same jot and knowledge is present today as it was throughout the times from Guru Nanak Dev Ji onwards. So the decision of leaving a number of angs by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, would ultimately be the same decision/thinking by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who added his father, Guru Teghbahadur Ji's bani later on.

I KNOW I KNOW! Extremely old post but a link...

Searchgurbani.com will answer this.

Home page, select 3 dot thing on top, click Dasam Granth, click prefered index search Punjabi or English and voila!

So far am reading Charitropakehyon, a few verses per day.
