Sultani Hindus

How many times we have heard and read that majority of sikhs are with hindu Background. Somewhere i read that majority of sikhs have Sultani hindu background not sanatani hindus.

Can anyone provide more information on this.

well to put it bluntly, majority of Sikhs can trace their ancestors to Hindu Punjabis, as it was the Hindu punjabis who became Khlasa under guru Gobind Singh Ji maharaj to fight Wazir Khan and Aurangzeb.

At one time the eldest son of every Hindu Punjabi family would become a SINGH

during these times there wasnt such a strict religious divide as it is today.

As for sultani( which i think means rich /autocratic Hindu background) there is a possibility they may have been

Just to add on, there were premis from every background who embraced Sikhi in the times of the Gurus. There were both Hindus as well as even Muslims, and then there were people belonging to different man-made "castes" who embraced Sikhi. All of the very first Panj Pyaarey were from different corners of India and from different so-called man-made "castes". Pandit Kirpa Ram, who headed the Kashmiri Pandits who came to Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji became Kirpa Singh and was among the shaheeds at the battle of Chamkaur. Abu Al Turani, a Mughal spy sent by Aurangzeb to spy on Gurujee at the Vasakhi of 1699 became Ajmer Singh. These are just few of the examples. There are multitudes more which we don't know of, and possibly may never know about.

id go with hindu punjabi but thats not the case for every one.

Sultanis are converts from Muslim Sheikhs who followed Sakhi Sarowar. Despite becoming Sikhs they still refuse to touch pork and some of the older generation used to smoke.
