I've lived in Brum all my life. Avoid Handsworth and Handsworth Wood completely. Yes there are **some** apne there but the areas are not great overall. Apologies if this offends current residents there. If a family member was asking me the same thing I would point blank tell them the same. In my experience look at south Birmingham e.g Hall Green and its neighbour the west midland borough of Solihull. Recently Solihull was named as one of the best places to live in the UK and the house prices promptly shot through the roof. The secondary schools there are massively oversubscribed. There are certain areas where the bulk of the community is Muslim avoid these areas - alum rock, small Heath, Sparkhill, Balsall Heath.

Sutton Coldfield is where you want to be if you want the best of education in the midlands for your children.

Rents and property rates are on the higher side but if you search, you can get a bargain. So, don't delete Sutton Coldfield from your search for higher rents but give it a shot, you may be lucky.

I am currently renting in Four Oaks but got a deal because I searched hard. Four Oaks has Sikh as second religion after Christianity. Even the GP has a Gurmukhi check in tuch-screen kiosk.

There is a twitter account @Sikhs_or_Sutton or search for Sikhs Sutton Cold'fd someone might be able to guide you if you tweet there.
