It's just very hard to have complete faith in myself.

I know i shouldnt worry about the future but like i said, i just worry about myself.

And who exactly is this "myself"? :p

Go away. Thank you for making me feel like im being laughed at. I hope you are happy that you can come on a sikh forum as a "Guest" and just add further insult.

Anyway, Nehmat

Thanks for your help and everyone else. Im going to edit this post as i just feel its being looked at and laughed at.

sometimes it's good to be alone. we have time to develop ourselves as individuals, which is what i think you should be doing. then you will be able to have a much more complete fulfilling relationship when married.

i've done a psych major, and a from that learned that cognitive behavioural therapy and meditaiton are both effective in helping deal with mood disorders. read books on cognitive behavioural therapy, just type that into the subject heading in your library search engine. the book 'feeling good' by dr. burns is recommended (although meant for depression, it's quite good.) The whole point of CBT is to take responsibilty for your thoughts so you are no longer the victim of circumstance, but empowered.

I had serious depression at one point in my life. What i learned was that nothign will cure it except for spirituality. We have a hole inside of us, we fill it up with tv, sex, excitement. What we need is God. That is why we get dukh (pain), b/c it is a means to drive us to seek out God to help us. Pleasure only leads us astray. But if we live the way God wants us to live (no dating, pure Amritdhari lifestyle), we can gain anand (bliss) and our dukh will decrease, our happiness will grow. The power of regular meditation, especially in Amritvela, cannot be overstated. I also recommend regular exercise, especially yoga as it releases a lot of feel good chemicals. Note that thesse practices I'm recommending also add regularity and stabilty to your life through routine.

One other thing, I couldn't recall the name of this book last post. Read 'As a Man Thinketh'. It's one of the most amazing books I've ever read. And it's not just for dealing with mood disorders, I think everyone should read it, it's incredibly empowering.

Fateh!

One in 4 people suffer from mental illness, and 6 out of every 100 people suffer from bipolar disorder. It's more common in young women from ethnic backgrounds where they are not always encouraged to express their emotions, so don't feel that you are alone.

Have you considered contacting a local support group for people who share your condition? You may even find some that cater specifically for young Asian women, if there is a large population of Indians where you live.

Do some research on mindfulness meditation and mindfulness based therapy, as they have an excellent rate of success in mood disorders. On a spiritual level, start doing Sukhmani Sahib and sampuran Anand Sahib at amritvela, but do some research to understand their meanings (don't just read them).

Best of luck,

K.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
