I doubt the book by Baba Gyana Singh has been digitised, there is one book by a H.S Akali available on the net at

Fateh!

What is the title of the book by Baba Gyana Singh? Any idea of when it was first published? I was under the impression that historical sources written by Shastar Vidya masters did not exist.

Do you know of any technical books on shastar vidya predating Baba Gyan Singh's book, and are there any books predating the period of Sikh perfection of this art?

Regards,

K.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just wanted a book on gatka for the following reasons:-

1. to see if there are different types of pentras

2. to see if there is any mention of hand to hand fighting i.e. unarmed combat

Thats all. I don't want to buy any books on shastar Vidiya - since my views are not in-line with the people who teach this art. I have no problem with the art. Please, i don't want to start a war of words.

I have heard of a book by Nanak Dev Khalsa - Dance of the sword, does anyone have this? I will buy it if anyone has a copy.

I have a few copies of Ustaad Nanak Dev Singh Khalsas book on Gatka.

PM me if anyone wants a copy.

Apparently some Nihangs in Dal Panth have Baba Gyaan Singhs book, which is said to be pretty basic. One would have to ask around in India and keep your fingers crossed. It was an internal Budda Dal publication, so only some Nihangs are likely to have it.

i dont want to open a can of worms as they say but look, what niddar teachs is the pure vidiya not watered down simple as, take what you want. I had a history teacher i hated him soooooooo much he could be a communist for all i know, i hate communism but doesnt mean i wont learn from him id take what i want from him and then apply it to myself.

but since you dont want to buy any books on shastar vidiya in the future thats teek.

1) there are 3 pentras in gatka; 2step, 3step, and 4step

2)there is no real hand-to-hand combat in gatka

fair enough you do not agree with the shastar vidiya gurdev's views, that is your choice. but to say that that is the reason you do not want the info on shastar vidiya is pure ignorant.

no offence meant at all.
