Nobody has answered the question of why coconut chatka is done.

Is there anybody that can provide a REAL answer as to why this practice is done.

Without quoting any Sant who used to do it. Can some1 provide the actual Reason why it is done?

I have not seen anyone provide that answer yet.

Same goes for the chatka of goats. Without mentioning maryada or tradition. No1 has provided an actual reason for these rituals.

Fateh!

They are puratan jung traditions used to inspire bir ras, same as the Nihang nugda practice. What kind of actual reason are you looking for?

Such rituals are not used to have a religious or spiritual effect (i.e., Nihangs don't believe that the nugda ritual has some inherent magical quality that will result in the enemy miraculously dying) as this would be against Gurmat, but they are used to focus and prepare the minds of all those involved to destroy the enemy in jung.

It's for a similar reason that targets painted in the uniform of enemy soldiers were used in bayonet and shooting practices in both World Wars and in others up until modern, more liberal PC times. The enemy soldier didn't die when the target was stabbed or shot, but it made him much more likely to be killed by a soldier who was used to putting bayonets or bullets in cardboard images that looked like him. Soldiers in modern times also have marching songs in which they denigrate or make fun of the enemy - the effect is that it boosts troop morale. It's the same in Nihang Dals when they recite their traditional bolis when throwing the nugda or chatkaing something.

There are many other practices in puratan Sikhi that have their basis in India's warrior culture that will not make sense if one tries to understand their spiritual value, simply because they are meant for the preparation of Jungee Khalsa in wartime rather than for the general spiritual advancement of a Gursikh living in more relaxed, peaceful times. That doesn't mean that such practices are outdated however - they can still be practiced to inspire bir ras to defeat internal enemies that beset one on one's spiritual path.

K.

ritual is called bali.sacfice it can be from a virgan girl to a coconut just take your pick

Nope. Bali is sacrifice offered to a Devi or Devata. Sikhs are forbidden to engage in such practices due to the taboo against worshipping the creations of Karta Purakh. Sikhs are also forbidden to eat any animal offered in bali sacrifice for the same reason that we are forbidden to eat halaal meat.

The coconut that is chatkaed is not an offering, neither is a chatka goat an offering.

Bhai Sahib ji, I dunno much abt that but it's interesting. I always thought ppl do it, because Guru Gobind Singh ji did it in Hazuur Sahib when he gave Gurgadi to Guru Granth Sahib ji after doing the Akhand Path Sahib. But maybe I thought wrong

It is a useless Hindu practice neither is it Sikhism - which is against Rituals and nor will it help one get closer to God - all Koor Kireyah

So according to you, Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale (whose guidance on how this is done in recorded in the pothi as mentioned), Sant Kartar Singh Ji Bhindranwale and Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale all practiced useless Hindu practices which were against Sikhism, that didnt help them get closer to God and were in fact koor kiryeyah!!

Nice.

Just to go over that again, Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji who was one of the most if not the most influtential parcharaks of the last century, whose thousands of students occuipied and continue to occupy many of the major grnathi/katha roles across the panth, the person that studied just about every granth, every religious source etc there was to get an understanding of all faiths, whose katha is stuided and memorised by modern day kathavachaks to enable them to do katha ... he was practicing koor kiryeah ... but YOU know better.

Sant Kartar Singh, the student of Sant Gurbachan Singh JI, who awoke the panth from the threat of dehdharis, who campagined without rest doing katha for over 12 or 14 hours a day to awake the sangat, to join them with gurbani and Guru sahib. Who was the only one to stand up to gandhi when she walked into maharajhs divaan. the one who openly spoke about encrouching hinduism etc, the one who having learnt from Sant Gurbachan singh ji planted the seeds of the later morche ... he was practicng and supporting koor kireyah ... but YOU know better.

Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, who carried on the work of Sant Kartar Singh Ji, who fully awaoke the panth, who shook it too its roots. Who administered amrit to hundreds of thousands, who challenged the hindu practices and re-established the sikh practices of Gurbani, Bana and Shastar. Who gave santhia to countless, who inspired thousands and thousands of singhs and singhnia to give their heads to defend the sikh faith and practices. Never was a hero like him seem before. He carrried on the parchar done by Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji and Sant Kartar Singh Ji ... and according to you ... this was koor kiriyeah. So despite everything that Sant Ji did, everything he stood for, practiced, preached etc ... he is still guilty of practicing useless hindu rituals.... since YOU know better.

If only the above 3 mahapurshs and all the gursikhs that were taught by them and all those that gave their lives after having been inspired by them .. had met YOU. You could have saved sant kartar singh ji from doing koor kireyah. What a shame that you live in southall and not in panjab at the time that these bechareh mahapursh and shaheeds were doing their seva. Im sure the panth would have benefitted so much from your wisdom after all the years you have spent on gurbani and seva etc.

Im glad you feel so confident that you can do nindiya of all these sants and shaheeds. <_<

Both reasons given seem to be related to goat jhatka in some way, so I'm just thinking if you don't believe goat jhakta ever took place under Maharaj then coconut jhatka wouldn't really have any meaning.

Though I do respect taksal mahpurash to the max so if anyone could elaborate further on what Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji wrote, or even a scan, it would be much appreciated.
