Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj REJECTS any rituals / thread cr*p.

And then why the hell do we "sikhs" accutally i'll call them panjabis, why do they do rakhriya?

They believe the brother protects the sisters, Guru Granth Sahib Ji tells us that male and female are equals, then why can't the sister protect the brother? mostly, what the hell?

I need evidence to stop this ritual which many panjabis do!

No harm in rakhri - it isn't a religious ritual. Just a way for bibiya to get some money from their brothers, lol.

Thankfully doesn't get much importance in my family.

Most people I've seen who seem slightly allergic to Rakhri etc are the ones who tend to rely on other for "quotes and references" from Guru Granth Sahib Ji..

agreed, rakhriya is a tradition which contradicts Sikhi, and so Sikhs should not carry out such meaningless traditions

The Janamsakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the janayoo should help others to understand the actual Sikhi stance on rakhriya

God doesn't have a form, we know that, but we still try to turn him into a form

there is no doubt rakhri is a ritual but so are these special colours that we wear, even this chola i would suggest, all these are rituals

Its all about the heart, how pure the heart is, how pure the mind is, not just ouside display because that is for fools as guru nanak dev ji says however its still continuing till the day of today, people have chosen outside displays but they have forgotten to die the death of ego and realise god before physical death.

In sukhmani sahib it clearly says "out of all the places, the supreme place is the heart where God resides" but we still continue to wander here and there, when we come accross that heart, we dont believe in them but slander them!

we still haven't found the gurudwara, the door of God thats within us, we read bani all the time, but we still have not realised God in all the physical senses.

I may be wrong here and I do apologise, but to me Rakhri day is just a day for brothers and sisters. Just like you have Mothers Day or Fathers Day this is more or less Sisters Day. It is nice to see sisters/brothers acknowledging their love for each other and the sisters of course getting a bit of money out of them, it is more a cultural thing then anything else. It may have had other connotations in the past but now it seems a celebration of the rista of brother sister then anything else, to me it has evolved.

More importantly the question is, how strong is your Sikhi?

Can it stand the onslaught of a piece of decorated string on your wrist?

Can your Sikhi withstand the string on your wrist?

I feel I am strong enough in my convictions to withstand this, and if that means my sister ties a string on my wrist that I take off a few moments later so that I can give her a hug and piyare of £10 then I feel it has not shaken by rehat maryadha to the core. If you feel this makes women subservient to men then try telling that to my sister and she would probably give you a fist sandwich in the mush!

While you are at it you might as well ban Mothers Day and Fathers Day and your own birthdays, many may agree with this but AkaalPurkh gave us these relationships and there is nothing wrong in celebrating them, to an extent. There is nothing wrong with a birthday celebration, as long as it does not involve partying and booze, if we celebrate these relationships with AkaalPurkh in mind, that He has granted us a daughter whose birthday we are celebrating or another year of my life has passed with Gurus grace, or I celebrate my brother / sister relationship then there is nothing wrong here.

I suppose what Sikhs object to Rakhri is the physical string around the wrist, as it reminds us of the jannu that Sahib Ji rejected. This rejection was to teach us that wearing a string would not bring us any closer to God, that the shabad in the heart is the only way to AkaalPurkh. The Rakhri is a little different from this, in my humble opinion.
