Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh!

As the sangat is aware, this year the Sikh nation has commemorated the 25th Anniversary since 1984 - the year when Sant Jarnail Singh Jee Khalsa Bhindranwale was attacked along with thousands more at Sri Harimandir Sahib, the year when Indira Gandhi was shot dead in retaliation of that attack and the subsequent rioting by Hindu mobs which occured around this time of the year in 1984.

A special commemorative event, featuring workshops and keertan with participation from all jathebandhis, will be held in Wolverhampton (UK) on 28th November 2009 at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Sedgley Street.

We want to mark this event and highlight the continuing struggle for justice. If you have any ideas on what we could do on the day, then feel free to reply to this thread and let us know. Alternatively, e-mail info@sikhroots.com

Thank you for taking the time out to read this and we hope that those who are able to attend do so. The invitation is open to you.

More details to follow shortly.

With Guru Ji’s grace, a unique event is being organized in remembrance of the devastating Delhi anti Sikh riots which occurred in the wake of a tyrant’s assassination.

This year is the 25th anniversary of the 1984 massacres. Appalling violence descended upon on our brave and precious brothers and sisters by an unjust, blind government. It is time to show that their deeds have not been forgotten. It is time to remember. It is time to reflect.

Many Sikhs in the UK have felt deeply saddened by the fact that this anniversary has gone relatively unmarked. The annual rally which took place in July this year at Hyde Park failed to be broadcasted on any of the mainstream news channels. This ignorance was seen as yet another blow to a Panth whose demands have gone unnoticed for so many years.

It is with this in mind that a strong desire to mark the atrocities was felt. The intention behind the event is to bring together the whole Panth; regardless of what jatha, Sampardha or affiliation they are from. We have only one purpose for this event; for the entire Khalsa brotherhood to unify together and amalgamate as one single entity in remembrance of the Maheen Shaheeds who blissfully obtained martyrdom for the sake of our Panth.

The message we wish to send to the Sangat is simple, it is one of Ekta. It is important that what was an attempt to divide us 25 years ago, now acts as the catalyst to unite us together now as strong as our Guru Ji’s intended the brotherhood to be. What better time to show that the path our Guru’s laid for us is being followed today despite the many obstacles being placed in front of us by kaljug.

Maharaj Ji has benevolently blessed us all with an actual media platform from which we can illustrate how integrated our Khalsa Panth is. Everyday we are shown how the Panth is having to resist with forces such as limited positive press coverage, political propaganda against us as well as disrepute being shown to what are the foundations of our faith. Therefore, every effort will be made to broadcast this event on a global platform.

Event details:

A twofold approach is being taken for the event itself; discourses for the intellect taking place during the day followed by Kirtan for the soul in the evening. This double edged sword will be utilized to carry across a vital message of the utmost prominence to all Sikhs across the globe. During the day we are arranged for notable speakers to offer discourses and in depth discussions upon the events surrounding the riots. We will also arrange for workshops to take place for various age groups.

To attract the ever diverted youth and to encourage Sangat participation, it was felt that a degree of uniqueness is required to mark the occasion and to promote Ekta, to evoke the true meaning of Sanjha. In line with this, the kirtanee requested to attend are to be paired up and asked to perform Kirtan as a real collaboration with other kirtanee which to our knowledge has not been done before in the UK.

Further details will be made available shortly. We humbly request for the entire UK Sangat to attend this special event to show that we have not forgotten.

We have attempted to contact the organisers of the Chaupai Sahib Bhog, however this has been to no avail. We desperately wish for both programmes to become one joint event.

We therefore ask humbly for the sevadaars to contact us as a matter of urgency so that the proposal for there to be one single event can be confirmed. Please either email: sarbat09@hotmail.co.uk or telephone 07894 989 874 or 07947 687 203.

It is strongly felt that there should not be two separate programmes on the same day as it defeats the whole object behind Sarbat ’09; for the sangat to enjoin together as one in remembrance of the unjust 1984 massacres.

We genuinely hope that the issue will be resolved very shortly. It can however be confirmed in the meantime that all kirtanee and speakers are now booked. A fully revised poster will be posted up within the next few days.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
