Gurbaanee On Race

Recommended Posts

GurFateh.

I was wondering if someone could help me find Gurbaanee Tuks that explain the importance of understanding that all races are equal. We all know that Gurbaanee teaches us that both genders are equal to each other, and that people of all faiths are equal to each other, and that a caste doesn't matter either. However I would like to to know if someone could help me find Gurbaanee Tuks that explains the equality of races, or something of the sort, even though I know that Sikhi teaches us that every human is equal. I just haven't really read any Tuks specifically explaining the equality of all races.

Thanks.

GurFateh.

From Akaal Ustat by Guru Gobind Singh Jee

http://www.sridasam.org/dasam?Action=Page&p=51

Someone is Hindu and someone a Muslim, then someone is Shia, and someone a Sunni, but all the human beings, as a species, are recognized as one and the same.

Karta (The Creator) and Karim (Merciful) is the same Lord, Razak (The Sustainer) and Rahim (Compassionate) is the same Lord, there is no other second, therefore consider this verbal distinguishing feature of Hindusim and Islam as an error and an illusion.

Thus worship the ONE LORD, who is the common enlightener of all; all have been created in His Image and amongst all comprehend the same ONE LIGHT. 15.85.

The temple and the mosque are the same, there is no difference between a Hindu worship and Muslim prayer; all the human beings are the same, but the illusion is of various types.

The gods, demons, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Turks and Hindus… all these are due to the differences of the various garbs of different countries.

The eyes are the same, the ears the same, the bodies are the same and the habits are the same, all the creation is the amalgam of earth, air, fire and water.

Allah of Muslims and Abhekh (Guiseless) of Hindus are the same, the Puranas of Hindus and the holy Quran of the Muslims depict the same reality; all have been created in the image of the same Lord and have the same formation. 16.86.

Just as millions of sparks are created from the fire; although they are different entities, they merge in the same fire.

Just as from of waves are created on the surface of the big rivers and all the waves are called water.

Similarly the animate and inanimate objects come out of the Supreme Lord; having been created from the same Lord, they merge in the same Lord. 17.87.

Thank you all for taking time to reply. I really appreciate it :) ... However...(I'm sorry if I'm asking for too much but..) If it's possible to help me find Tuks that relate SPECIFICALLY TO RACE, I'd really, really appreciate it. As I mentioned in my original post, we all know that Guru jis teach us about the equality of religions/cultures, genders, "castes", but if possible, I would really like to find Tuks explaining the equality of race specifically. I've been trying for a while now, but I didn't come across any yet. Many people are saying "There should be." or "I'm pretty sure there is/are"...however no one has really told me about a specific Tuk directly relating to race.

Sorry if I seem to be a pain, but this is something that I need help finding.

And..

Mehtab Singh, are the lines which you have posted up from Gurbaanee? I keep getting one hit, which leads to a facebook link.

Didn't you read the tuk's translations above?

1.

Recognise the entire human race as one.

Note: Jaat can mean caste in its everyday meaning, but it can also mean class or species or race.

2. "The eyes are the same, the ears the same, the bodies are the same and the habits are the same, all the creation is the amalgam of earth, air, fire and water."

It seems quite clear Guru Gobind Singh ji is referring to theh physical composition of the body here.

3.

[but] They all emanate from the drop of God's Seed. ||2||

maattee eaek sagal sa(n)saaraa ||

The entire universe is made of the same clay.

bahu bidhh bhaa(n)ddae gharrai kumhaaraa ||3||

The Potter [i.e. GOD] has shaped it into all sorts of vessels. ||3||

All people are made out of the same basic elements. This is quite clearly referring to race.

4. Kabir ji's shabad, quoted by Random_Singhni is also talking about race:

First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings.

eaek noor thae sabh jag oupajiaa koun bhalae ko ma(n)dhae ||1||

From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1||

maattee eaek anaek bhaa(n)th kar saajee saajanehaarai ||

The clay is the same, but the Fashioner has fashioned it in various ways.

naa kashh poch maattee kae bhaa(n)ddae naa kashh poch ku(n)bhaarai ||2||

There is nothing wrong with the pot of clay - there is nothing wrong with the Potter. ||2||

And..

Mehtab Singh, are the lines which you have posted up from Gurbaanee? I keep getting one hit, which leads to a facebook link.

Yes, they are from a Kabitt by Guru Gobind Singh ji.

Such is the greatness of Guru Gobind Singh ji that I don't know if any other prophet has acknowledged that the one God worshipped by one tribe is the same as the one worshipped by other tribes.

By the way, don't get hung up on looking for tuks whose translations use the English word "race". The fact is that word wasn't used exclusively in its current meaning until the 19th century.

Thanks a lot to Gkaur, mehtab singh, Papi, and RandomSinghni. The shabads posted by you have left nothing to say on the matter.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
