Police firing victim cremated: dharna lifted

( Dec 06 2009 ) By Jatinder Preet

After holding the city to a halt for over a day, Panthic forces lifted their day long dharna Sunday morning but not before announcing a call for Punjab Bandh on December 7.

Led by the Sant Samaj and the Damdami Taksal the panthic bodies have however announced that no rail or road traffic will be disrupted and that only shops and business enterprises will be closed during this bandh.

Darshan Singh (60) a resident of village Lohara who died yesterday during police firing was cremated here today morning amidst tight security. Darshan Singh had received bullet injuries when the police opened fire at Samrala Chowk to stop supporters of various groups from marching towards the venue of a religious congregation organized by Ashutosh Maharaj of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansathan.

A group of Sikhs led by the Panthic forces had been sitting on Dharna since yesterday morning which continued through the night. The group was demanding registration of an FIR against CM Parkash Singh Badal, MLA Ludhiana East Harish Bedi and his son honey Bedi and Ashutosh Maharaj. The dharna was finally lifted today morning when the district administration announced that it was taking the body of Darshan Singh to his native village for his last rights and that this was being done in consent with the deceased’s family. The district administration then allowed the people sitting on the dharna to attend the last rights but did not hand over the body of Darshan Singh to the group.

Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma of the Damdami Taksal announced that, “leaders of all Sikh organizations will meet at our dera in Chowk Mehta head on December 12 where future course of action will be decided. This plan will then be announced on December 14 here at Lohara ."

Panthic leaders meanwhile slammed the state government, “ for allowing patronage to people like Ashutosh and hurting sentiments of the Sikhs. And this is evident from the statement of DGP Punjab P S Gill who has admitted that when a migrant went to register his FIR with the police he was shooed away saying that the police was busy in a bigger function. The bigger function was this congregation, “ added R P Singh spokesperson of teh Akhan Keertani Jatha.

Shaheed Bhai Darshan Singh, a 58 years old Guru Ka Singh who got martyred by police bullets on 5 December 2009 in the Morcha against fake Guru Ashutosh.

He was a sevak of Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale. He drove a riksha for livelihood. He has left 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Sikh Nation is insisting that they will only do Sanskaar of the Shaheed Singh at the very place in which Ashutosh' program was being held.

This thread is dedicated to the Shaheed.

Is there a way we can help his family financially. We can contribute a little bit and it will provide some relief.

Can sikhsangat organize this. Let us haev views of sangat.

The latest is that the likes of the Government controlled SGPC and the corrupt Prakash Singh Badal Government are now trying to "please" the (many poor) families of the victims by offering financial help in an attempt to get greater influence over the families than the Sikhs and Panthic personalities. Panthic Sikh groups must unite and be careful with who they can and cannot trust in these times. There is more danger from our internal organisations that the obvious external threats. There may be further information coming through about your question soon.

Shaheed Bhai Darshan Singh Ji has two sons. It is important that the Khalsa Panth does not forget his sacrifice and ensure the family is looked after and receive all the help they need.

are you sure he has no daughter/s? i read somewhere he has two whpo are of marriagable age?

He has one elder daughter and two teenaged sons.

How many police were injured or killed?

Why is it always Singhs being killed? Kirpans and guns must be for more then just show. How many Sikh Gunmen/bodyguards were with the sikh leaders during the protesters? If Sikh gunmen were present and 5/6 singhs have been killed with no enemy in return then those guns need to be taken off them and given to people who have the knackers to use them, when needed.

3 police wale injured. The DSP who shot Shaheed Bhai Darshan Singh got attacked by a Singh with a kirpan.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
