Akhand Paath Help Please ......

Recommended Posts

I want to ask that if a person doing Akhand Paath says some words to some other person nearby like "call that aunty ji " in a low voice , does it invalidates ( bhanng ) the Akhand paath ?

I did so because I was wanting an aunty ji to continue with Akhand paath as I wanted to go urgently for something else.

So , I called my mum ( by waving my hand in air ) and told her to call the aunty to carry on with akhand paath . I felt so stupid because I said something else while doing Akhand paath .

I am feeling so stupid now .... sad.gif ,

if we read the sikh rehat maryada carefully, we can grasp the spirit of the matter,

in turbulent times(post guru gobind singh ji and pre Ranjit Singh) when the dal khalsa

had to spend days in jangals , they got very little time for gurbani paath as they were

always busy with fighting tyranny of the rulers , and hand written beers of Guru sahib

were in limited number onlyhence whenever they got 3-4 days spare and saroop of

Guru sahib , they would do akhand paath so as to get benefit of ureading and imbibing

spirit of Gurbani - hence even in rehat maryada what is written here i quote in letter

contained Chapter 3 article 9

Article IX

a. The non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib is carried on at hard times or on occasions of elation or joy.

It takes approximately fortyeight hours. The non-stop reading implies continuous, uninterrupted reading.

The reading must be clear and correct. Reading too fast, so that the person listening in to it cannot follow

the contents, amounts to irreverence to the Scriptures. The reading should be correct and clear, due care being

bestowed on consonant and vowel even though that takes a little longer to complete.

b. Whichever family or congregation undertakes the non-stop reading should carry it out itself through

its members, relatives, friends, etc., all together. The number of reciters is not prescribed.

If a person, himself, cannot read, he should listen in to the reading by some competent reader.

However, it should never be allowed to happen that the reader carries on the reading all by himself/herself

and no member of the congregation or the family is listening in to the reading. The reader should be served

with food and clothing to the best of the host's means.

going by the wording above , it is more thabn clear we donot follow rehat maryada in the spirit , only ritualistic

method are applied.

Going by the spirit , there is no issue in what you did, but yes when so many people are listening ,this should have

not happened Further keeping in mind the sanctity of the Guru Sahib before sitting for sewa of paath we should be

careful to relieve ourself and have bath to become fresh so that such situation does not happen . All the conditions

prescribed by different sects to be followed before sitting in sewa of Paath are made keeping these things in view and

we should follow it not as a ritualism but seeing the reason behind .

Some people at tyhe forum find my words harsh , and i always put my apologies in advance , but that words are put

only under the light of teachings of our great gurus, so please I request not to take anything personally

i always stand where my Great Guru is

fateh

veer ji no matter what happens, when you are with Guru ji and doing Akhand Paath seva then nothing should matter.

Nothing is no longer urgent. The time spent doing this seva is more important than anything else in the world.

If you can help it then don't stop reading, or engage in any conversation.

I know some gianis keep a bell to get the attention of others when they need to leave. im not sure what the marayada is, but I have been taught that when your doing seva, nothing matters, even if you have to do 1,2,3.....extra hours, this extra time is a blessing and will take your kamai a long way

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
