What Is Required Of One To Become A Sikh?

Hey all

Been a long time, i`m just wandering what is required of one to become a sikh?

Like is there anything in peticular i`d have to do or do i just know i`m a sikh and that`s it?

Also do you have to change your name? as i was reading a pm someone sent me ages ago,and i said something about having to change my name?

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru, the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the Naam of God which is the pool of nectar. Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased. Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name. One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind.

in nutshell, a sikh believes in one supreme power the God , does not believe in incarnation theory, and tryto reach the ultimate aim of life through the teachings of the Masters , present before us in the form of the Book , ADISri Guru Granth Sahib .he is expected to lead simple life living off honest earnings, serving the needy , respecting the divergent views regarding faith ,but firm in his own faith

Hi Carl,

If you want to become a Sikh then go to the Gurdwara, take some parshaad with you. Stand infront of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and do 'ardaas' your personal dialogue with God.

In the ardaas forsake all others and regard the Ten Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib Ji as your only Guru. Make a promise that you will not bow down to any other and beleive in one all prevading God. Promise that you will start to get up early in the morning, bathe, and start reciting the proscribed prayers. That you will give up tobacco / meat / alcohol. That you will move towards keeping unshorn hair and that you will move towards being intiated into the Khalsa panth with the Amrit ceromony.

It can be a shock to the system if you have to do all these things all at once - BUT THE BEST WAY - so if you start to move towards these goals then all th better.)

Then let of five "Wahehgur Ji Ka Khalsa waheguru Ji Ke Fateh"s and you now can call your self a Sikh.

Start reading Gurbani and really try and understand the messages behind the writings.

Start meditation and remembrance of The One.

To become Khalsa (Pure One) take Amrit from Panj Pyare in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. (I'd recommend first practising the lifestyle).
