Hi,

This is get Sangat's support in making Sri Harmandir Sahib area No-Vehicle-Zone, so that Irregular traffic, Air pollution, Noise Pollution and Problems faced by on-foot Sangat (both indian and foreigners) can be reduced and originality of the surroundings can be retained. So that area arround Sri Harmandir Sahib can be made breathable and where one can do Naam-Simran without any nuisance.

Increasing pollution in surroundings of Sri Harmandir Sahib needs to be checked at Highest priority. Most of this pollution is caused by uncontrolled commuting of Taxis, Hotel Vans and other vehicles. Most affected are the Sangat, Sri Darbar Sahib building and Gold coating. Sangat, most of whom come from outside and on foot, face a daunting task of walking in heavy traffic of Cars, Scooters, Rickshaws and even heavy Trucks and Buses. Its to be noted that a Huge 3 Storied Parking and a 2 Storied Parking, specially for Vehicles coming to Sri Harmandir Sahib are operational at Chownk Fuwara. Administration took serious note of this problem and declared Area upto Chownk Fuwara as VEHICLE-FREE ZONE last year. But right next day on the pretext of Helping Traders around Sri Harmandir Sahib, Local Leaders protested against this move and dismounted the barricades. Amritsar City is there, because of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Hotels are operating because of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Traders are Trading because of Sri harmandir Sahib, Taxis are operating because of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Please Support this Cause.

NOTE:

BJP MLAs from Amritsar LAXMI KANT CHAWLA and JOSHI (both are well known RSS Sewaks) openly/publicly oppose this move of Administration on behest of supporting Traders arround Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Whereas if Sangat goes on foot from Chounk Fuwara to Sri Harmandir Sahib, the shop keepers will benefit from it, Shopping can be done better on foot than sitting in a car.

A ban on the use of coal-run hearths in Guru Bazaar near the Golden Temple came into force from tomorrow (July 1). The market which was as old as the city itself, housed gold and silver ornament workshops.

From July 1 onwards goldsmiths would not be allowed to run their operations on coal-run hearths. Deputy Commissioner K.S. Pannu said the district administration and goldsmiths had taken unanimous decision to stop using coal-run hearths.

Alarmed at the reports of damage to the holiest Sikh shrine due to rising pollution, the state government had asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to demarcate a pollution free-zone around it in which no vehicle would be allowed and all activities that create smoke would be barred.

Reports by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) had confirmed negative effects of pollution on the Golden Temple.

The step would help prevent the corrosion of golden plating over and inside the building of sanctum sanctorum. The government desired to ban the use of fuel other than LPG by goldsmiths, hotels and dhabas in the city to reduce pollution.

The data collected by the board revealed that every goldsmith, dhaba and hotel owner used 15 kg to 25 kg of coal or up to 50 litres of diesel or kerosene a day, depending upon the workload and availability of electricity.

I also saw on Zee Punjabi News some days ago that there was some voilence in Amritsar and RSS people broke the Municipal office and broke anything which came their way as an agitation to this. So, they have started spoiling the environment again, this reminds me of weeds growing in my garden which need to cleaned up :).
