the party hall has nothing to do with the gurdwara, it is a building next to the gurdwara

&.....

it's owned by the Sikh community

it's associated with the Gurdwara,

therefore, it's associated with the Sikh community,

it's to be used by the congregation of the Sikh Gurdwara,

BUT...it promotes activities which go against the core principles of Sikhism and Akal Takht Sahib

.....if that's not enough, it's physically next to the pavitar Gurdwara sahib

So as Sikh stakeholders of this "party hall", we can exercise our right to raise an objection to the activities which will take place in this "party hall"...that is all that has been happening Gill Ji.

If everyone makes a stand here they should do it at other gurdwara where this happens as well , at the moment all i see is bandwagon jumping. I don't know why coach's are coming from slough as this has been happening over there at the Ramgariha Gurdwara regularly (booze and meat at partys in the party hall) ! They ignore that and wanna jump on the grays band wagon ? Or is it because its a ramgariiha gurdwara it does not mater ? Well i hope when this grays business is delt with everyone looks to continue with it !

Bro, at first I too had the same thoughts but in reality its not that simple. If all UK Sikhs work together and focus just on one at a time, it would be a lot more effective. The reason being is that most of these party halls havent popped up yesterday, some have been around for decades. No small amount of local pressure will ever get these Gurooghar Prabandaks to stop this beadbee…for them there is no beadbi. I guarantee you that a few locals will not achieve as much as if we all work together. If we work together, just focussing on one at a time will definitely set a precedence and the publicity will help shut down the other halls too.

So the question is why has the Grays Gurdwara been singled out first and not other Gurooghars; primarily because the beadbee is happening within the Gurooghar and not a building down the road. While any beadbee is beadbee but having people drunk in the same complex as Guroo Jee cannot be tolerated. So for this reason, I personally commend the prabandaks in Southall & Slough for arranging transportation to the protest.

I do have one bentee though and I feel that its going to be very important that while we are protesting, we need to keep our calm and try to educate the local sangat of Grays with pyaar and not through force. Its not enough to just attend as ultimately it is the local sangat of Grays that will ensure that such anti-Gurmat activities dont take place in the future...so we need to try and get the local sangat on our side

We start off with Grays, as it is a new hall not yet started. BUT I can tell you that there is a conviction amongst youth to shut down all Gurdwara owned party halls. We need a grass roots movement to develop amongst Panth-Dardi GurSikhs to be effective in every town and city, and then to support one another on a national level. E.g., attending the protest. ONE STEP AT A TIME THOUGH!

It's encouraging that Sikh TV is taking a stand on difficult Panthic issues. It would be great if Sikh TV could also advertise this protest so that there is greater awareness amongst the wider Sangat of the issue.

100% correct. Gursikhs must be whiter than white on the day. No doubt there will be provocations from the Grays Committee and Party attendees, but GurSikhs must remember to act with dignity and uphold the image of the Khalsa. There will be zero tolerance to troublemakers or renegade groups and they will be asked to leave immediately. I believe a posting outlining protocol on the day will go up later.

Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa Vaheguru ji Ki Fateh!

Protocol for meeting scheduled with Grays Gurdwara Committee on 16th October 2010.

Gursikhs are requested to start gathering at the Grays Gurdwara at 12pm sharp. A meeting with the committee has been requested for 2pm.

A large Gursikh presence is requested to show the Grays Gurdwara Committee that the UK Sikh Sangat has been deeply hurt by the sacrilege of allowing meat, alcohol and tobacco within the Gurdwara premises and properties where Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is present

However:

- Gursikhs attending must understand that there may still not be a resolve during the meeting

- Gursikhs must show restraint and conduct themselves respectfully even when addressing the Gurdwara Committee members or any attendees of the Party.

- Intimidation or violent behaviour will NOT be tolerated

- Support those Gursikhs who will be taking a lead on the day

- Do not come looking intimidating i.e. do not wear hoodies or any face coverings. To show solidarity please wear blue Dastars, Rumallas and Chunnis.

- No swearing or slogans will be permitted, you must partake in Naam Simiran, Mool Mantra and Chaupai Sahib Jaap to receive blessings from Guruji

- Gursikhs must educate the unaware and the foolish about Gursikh principles and Akal Takhat Rehit Maryada, leaflets will be available for distribution

- The power of Gursikhs (men and women, old and young) turning up in large numbers, showing solidarity and restraint, adhering to Guruji principles, will portray a stronger message to this committee and the other Gurdwara committees who allow this beadbi to happen on a weekly basis in Gurdwara properties.

- Sikh Tv will be present for you to voice your concerns to the wider Sikh Community

- Sewdars will provide Langar on the day

This is the first time in many years that the Sikh Community collectively will be standing up to stop this beadbi from happening across the UK. It could take many years to eradicate this from our Community and your support will be need over this time.

Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa Vaheguru ji Ki Fateh!

Text of letter sent by Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Hitchin. Other Gurdwaras, please feel free to copy.

Dear Sangath and Management committee of Grays Gurdwara

We are writing as we have received disturbing news that you have decided to hold a function/party later in the week, which will involve alcohol and meat consumption on the premises of the Gurdwara Sahib. Whilst we would never get involved or try to influence in the running of any Sikh establishment, we have no choice but to raise our concern with regards to this decision in the strongest way as we feel it goes against the teachings of our Guru’s and desecrates the sanctity of our Guru Granth Sahib.

We would humbly request that you urgently reconsider this decision, as this will be sending a message that is contrary to the teachings of our beloved Sikh Faith.

We as Sangat and management committee of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Hitchin pray that the teachings of our Guru’s will prevail in you making the right decision.

Yours Faithfully

Sangath/Committee/Trustees of SGSSH

Sack the WHOLE lot of them - Grays Gurdwara Committee they have caused MASSIVE HURT & UNREST in the Sikh Community. I will say it to their faces "Paise De PUKKHE" - YOU DO NOT REPRESENT ME, THE SIKH FAITH OR ARE ANY WHICH WAY KHALSA MINDED - pack your bags as once this problem is resolved you may have to start your own small DERA TEMPLE - Singho even if the Committee now stop this Nasha Party on the day we will still attend and carry on the programme to cleanse the Gurdwara with Kirtan and Gurbani.

I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED SHAME ON YOUR HANKAR

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
