I think this will disturb the atmosphere significantly. Cheapening it.

There is nothing wrong with how Harmandir Sahib is already.

Having PowerPoint type presentations whooshing by on a giant screen is not a pleasant thought. I think the brothers and sisters in Toronto mean well but don't understand the significance of the proposed change.

Waheguru save us from it!

Fateh,

If anything, i think it may be better to put the screens up outside the actual complex of darbaar sahib, possibly just showing a live broadcast from darbaar sahib around amritsar city - leading into darbar sahib. Around the main entrances.... to the complex .... And also, why cant the SGPC pay for it, not in a bad way, i know its great to donate to these kind of projects, but how about all the charava that sangat also give at darbaar sahib, isnt it good if that gets used up aswell/first.

Im pretty sure the folks at sgpc wouldn't want to use "their hard earned cash" lol

I also agree with ak47 - why can't we just start with the basic use what we already have to a greater extent- the satallite signal that is sent from Darbar Sahib is Kirtan only, it would be far better to spend resoruces on posting shabad lines with a basic translation as well as kirtan which is aired at present and is beautiful.

Firstly, they look terrible. The place has been damaged enough already through shoddy construction work.

Secondly, the last thing the committee there needs is funds. The place is rolling in money.

I know these overseas sikhs want to 'big up' their name in their own towns and cities - but this is not the way to do it.

Benti from a fellow Canadian (and Ontarian):

Please don't put these screens inside the complex.

If you really, really, really want to install them, please put them OUTSIDE (NOT INSIDE).

You can't force such a decision on the entire Sikh nation (perhaps you could send letters to all the Gurdwaras on this planet to poll their Sangat...to see what the global Sangat thinks of this idea...).

It seems like most of the people reading this thread agree that Sri Darbar Sahib should not have these screens placed around the parkarma. If needed they can be placed outside or at other places but NOT where they have been suggested.

From the original post it seems that the Toronto organisation has already had discussions with the sgpc who have given the go ahead for this project. Is there anyone who either lives in Toronto or who knows the people behind this project that would be able to discuss this with them? Based on just a few opinions here it seems that most are not in favour and would at least like the issue debated rather than being thrust upon us.

So can we somehow please arrange for a hold on the project under due consultation has taken place. Is there anybody who can make sure this happens? Equally in India if anyone knows the sgpc people, can they speak to them and make sure that discussions are had on wider basis rather than behind doors when the first we hear of it is "we need some money ...".

Also people have been mentioning the heritage lady, can whoever knows her let her know and try and get such people involved.

Again just to reiterate the feelings of everyone here it seems, this would be very very sad for this to happen. And for a FACT it would only be so long before politicians and groups realised the potency of the screens and started whacking names all over them, pictures etc etc just like you see all over Amritsar city.

Please leave Harimandir Sahib as it is.

Ps the apple store comment was very funny but also very true!

Pyare Khalsa Ji we MUST STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING there is no need for these MEGA TV screens to be placed at Sri Darbar Sahib Ji.

SGPC should use our charavha / funds to launch a LIVE ONLINE TV Channel direct from the Golden Temple with "subtitles" so the WHOLE WORLD can enjoy Gurbani in their own homes.

Sangat Jio this is a highly organised fund raising excercise as I have seen the same "advert story" on many websites and I am very suspicious of this venture.

Toronto Sikhs if you have collected funds for your project why not use them for a Online Tv Channel.

SHABAD KIRTAN

Golden Temple to have 4 LED screens soon

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, October 21

With the Sikh Sangat from Canada planning to install four outdoor LED screens in the 'parikrama', devotees visiting the Golden Temple will soon be able to see shabad kirtan being recited from the sanctum sanctorum on these screens and read the translation of Gurbani.

These LED screens will be put up on top of the 'chhabeels' in different corners of the 'parikrama' around the sanctum sanctorum. The project entails installing outdoor LED screens for spreading the message of Gurbani among the devotees visiting the shrine. These LED screens will also let devotees read the translation of Gurbani, irrespective of weather conditions prevailing at any point of time.

The project will cost $2 lakh with each screen coming at $50,000. With the help of these screens, the devotees awaiting their turn to have darshan can have full inside view of the sanctum sanctorum. They could see a live telecast of kirtan while standing or sitting in different parts of the parikarma.

SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh confirmed that the Sikhs from Canada had got their approval for installation of these LEDs.

Earlier, the SGPC had installed 10 LCD screens at vantage points in the 'parikarma' and within the 'serais' in the Golden Temple complex.

However, these screens merely display the Gurbani being recited inside the sanctum sanctorum in text form and its translation. Some of these screens also double up as interactive touch-screen panels, providing information about the Golden Temple and the SGPC apart from train and bus timings.

By above news, it is now confirmed from India side....

Please Contact Organizers to re-think/change the location. Instead on top of Shabeel/water area, have it installed outer corridor of darbar sahib. If installed on top of the shabeel area then people gonna sit to watch while facing their back to darbar sahib.

Their sewa is genuine but needs to compromise with sangat in choosing the location..
