The latest charity commission report for 2008 shows that the Ramgarhia Gurdwara committee made almost £40,000 from the party hall, sadly named in the name of Sikh Panthic hero Sardar Jassa Singh Ji Khalsa (see bottom of page 10 on link). This is a 33% increase on the previous year.

The bottom of page 14 of the charity commission report shows that they have set aside a "building fund" to develop a new Community Centre, which will include an even bigger wedding hall.

Gurdwara's are not a business. They are a Dharmsala for spreading Guru's Sikhi. Should the Sangat's money which is given in Guru's Golak be used to fund party hall, meat, alcohol and tobacco activities, or should Guru's Golak be used for Sikhi Parchaar, helping Shaheed families, dharmi faujis and the unfortunate in the world?

It's CLEARLY time to reclaim OUR Gurdwaras from the corrupt Gurdwara committees.

Tikka - this is not a caste issue. Let's not allow caste to become an issue amongst Gursikhs. Question is this: does the Gurdwara follow Guru's Maryada and Akal Takht Sahib's Sandesh regarding meat and alcohol? If not, it should not claim to be a Gurdwara, Guru Sahib's saroops should be taken away and Nishan Sahib should be taken down - SIMPLE!!!

This clearly is a Caste issue, look... lets stop beating around the bush, tip toeing around this issue. This has gone on for far too long.

The Ramgarhia Council UK Ramgarhia "Parliament" are all super corrupt organisations and all Gurwaras affiliated to them.

They are to the very core Caste orientated. Then they sell you the rubbish of "oh Ramgrhia isn't about caste he was a great Sikh Warrior"

It is ALL about caste- under the disguise of our great ancestors.

why if is isn't about caste, are 100% of its members of Tharkan caste??

They NEVER attend 1984 memorials.. yet they go to the Indian flag saluting ceremonies. These guys are of total congressi mindset, they have no Dharmic agenda, or Panthic agenda. It is solely a bhahman promoting organisation, hell bent on corrupting our youth, hell bent on putting the shackles of caste slavery around our people.

The SHAMEFUL thing is, the inventors of the caste syetem do not have caste based mandhirs or meat or alcohol.

We have caste based Gurdwaras, serving meat and alcohol under the name of Maha Singh Soorme like Jassa Singh KHALSA.

It is appalling!! the trick these guys will play to strengthen their brainwashed sangat by saying we are being threatened by Jatt or whatever, hence gelling them together.

We need a Ramgahia Missl- Anti-beadbi committee headed by Gursikhs who just happen to be of tharkhan background- no this is not how it should happen.. but it is the only way we can combat this cancer!

If the so-called "Ramgarhias" have made it a caste issue, it doesn't mean that we have to make it one. Guru Granth Sahib Ji belongs to Khalsa Panth, and it is the Panth's duty to ensure that no Beadbi occurs. There are "Ramgarhias" who are against the party halls in "Ramgarhia" Gurdwaras - they're the silent majority. The Panth has to unite, regardless of man-made caste, to defeat the corrupt leaders and committees.

REPEAT: It's not a caste issue at all. The leaders/committees are trying to make it a caste issue to defend their anti-Gurmat practices. Let's stay united and not fall into their trap!!!

Whatever the "label" of a Committee or Sangat members who serve in a Gurdwara, sharda has no caste neither does beadbi. The nishan sahib has no caste, nor does the pavitar saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The wrongful practice of promoting a party hall in a Gurdwara property serving alcohol, meat and allowing people to smoke under the banner of Baba Jassa Singh Ramgharia is morally offensive to our puratan forefathers and unacceptable.

Just because someone has divided the Panth many many years ago, does not mean it still has to be accepted. If we cloud this with “caste bashing” comments then all we will do is intensify the smokescreen of individual prejudices which will carry on masking this beadbi, like it has for many years.

This is a Sangat issue, just like Grays was, just like Edinburgh was. And it needs addressing by each and every person that labels themselves as a Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. There's no them or us in this. We all need to see that we are part of the same Sikh spirtual gene pool and if one of our own brothers is slipping then we need to help him back up again.

It's time to intensify dailogue with all the Gurdwara Committees or Sangat members who have allowed themselves to slip into promoting the manmat of alcohol fueled parties in Gurdwaras. If that fails then the only option is a peaceful protest outside the hall to raise awareness.

As Singh Warrior has stated, this is not and should not be made into a caste issue. This is a Gurooghar where Guroo Granth Sahib Jee are parkash and therefore its all our duties to ensure no such beadbee takes place on any Gurooghar premises.

Lets stay focussed on the this issue alone, which is to prevent meat/alcohol/parties from happening on any Gurooghar premises which includes Graham Street.

I spoke to a committee member in the office earlier.

Discussed the hall, it's activities and Akal Takht Sahib. The response from the member of the committee was that although he acknowledged that it is immoral to serve alcohol and meat in the Gurdwara owned hall there are more pressing issues in the Panth that need addressing. I then went on to say what could be more pressing then the centres of that Panth, our Gurdwaras, abusing Sikh principles. To which he replied that most Gurdwaras today are corrupt and we [Ramgharia Gurdwara Graham St] are one of the only democratic Gurdwaras where our sangat take the lead in decisions. He then went through a finger pointing excercise in relation to some Gurdwaras in Birmingham who do what he termed as "incorrect" things such as Sampat Paths or Japji Sahib/Sukhmani Sahib rauls which I found to be a spiteful comparison for allowing meat and alcohol on the Gurdwara premises.

It's unfortunate that people fall in the trap of using the "2 wrongs make a right" proverb to justify what they are doing. I think deep down this committee member actually knows that what is going on in the hall is wrong but won't admit it.

I think some postive thinking Gursikhs need to call up the committee and do some vichar. If the conversation is polite then a lot gets discussed. The committee member was polite but unfortunatly unfocussed and confused on what Gurmat priorities are. It's the classic case of passing the buck to the local "Sangat" who (as this committee member claims) in times of recession demand a discounted party hall for their functions which the House of Guru Nanak is expected to provide!! The committee have convinced themselves that they are performing a "sewa" by promoting the very activities that Guru Nanak Dev Ji took us away from 500 years ago.

Press Release

Birmingham,UK. 27 November 2010

Ramgharia Sikh Temple, Birmingham violate Sikh Maryada

Meat, alcohol and parties allowed in Gurdwara owned hall.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

After the successful closure of the Grays and Edinburgh Gurdwara party halls, the local congregation of Birmingham have now raised concerns in regards to the anti-Sikh activities allowed to take place in the Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgarhia Hall which is managed by the Committee of Ramgharia Sikh Temple, Birmingham.

The Sikh congregation of Birmingham have been offended by the continual promotion of a belligerent atmosphere under the banner of a great Sikh Icon (Baba Jassa Singh Ramgharia) and with the patronage of the Gurdwara Committee itself, where parties, meat, alcohol and smoking are permitted on the Gurdwara Jagir (Estate).

Due to these issues, an official dialogue has now started between Satkaar Sewadaars and members of the Committee of this Gurdwara (please see the letter attached below).

We now humbly request that members of the UK Sangat, other Parbahandak Committees and Sikh Leaders contact this Committee in a respectful fashion to help them understand their obligation to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sikh Maryada.

President – Mr Jasvinder Singh Sagoo

General Secretary – Mr Gurcharan Singh Bahra

Tel: 0121 236 5435 or 0121 233 2647

Sunday is a good time to contact the committee as they are likely to be in the Gurdwara complex. Also letters from the Gurdwaras (even outside the UK) will also have massive impact.

The Committee are very open about what goes on in the Hall, which probably stems from the fact that they have remained unchallenged by the local sangat for the last 15 years or so.

The gurdwara committee have regular meetings every tuesday and friday 7pm to 8.30 pm. Any contact between now and tuesday is likely to be escalated in their meeting.

There is offense being generated from some of the older "self-appointed custodians" of the uk Sikhs (who shall remain nameless but appear regularly on sikh/punjabi media!) who have been communicating this lehar to close party halls in Gurghars in comparison to the "taliban" in Afghanistan......If these personalities feel that they are threatened by a grass roots reform movement within their own sangat then as per their own manufactured sikh jathabhandi job titles they should show real leadership of the gurdwara maryada issues in the uk.....

Please do not give these people the ammunition to label us with derogatory comments and generalisations.... When speaking to the committees or posting comments on this thread please remain respectful.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
