In my opinion, we are a mix of ethical and practical vegetarians. We aren't vegetarians because it makes us good people, we are vegetarian because it is the best for the Earth and taking a life of another for no reason contributes negatively to your karma.

As for the technical term, no idea lol.

we are not lacto ovo but we are lacto vegetarians, that means no fish, meat, eggs, but dairy is ok.
