Did anyone watch the discussion on Sangat TV at 9pm yesterday, just want to congratulate Sangat TV for dicussing such an important topic live on air and bringing awareness to the sangat about the dangers that our kids are facing when they go out. So many people would not have known about these problems and educating the sangat is critical and using this media format is ideal. It makes a good change from the Gurdwara Politics that are regularly dicsussed on the other channel and it directly addresses and relates to the youth. Well done to Sangat TV, keep it up. Well done to SAS aswell, keep up the good work you are doing.

Completely agree. It was an excellent show. Well done Sangat TV!

Sometimes, our elders/Sikh media are scared to discuss these issues as they know they are controversial and will offend people. Sorry, but burying our head in the sand only makes the issues worse. These are real issues which our Panth is facing TODAY. There's no point crying when things go wrong. Better to address these issues first. This can only happen through awareness.

Jeez, you still selling that EDL crap......

I missed the show, can I see it online anywhere? Did they resolve their technical difficulties since last week?

I just checked their website and I admire them for taking the initiative to spread awareness about Sikhi.

However, scroll down on the first page of their website and there's a link to an article about the imam who abused a child. Whilst this cannot be disputed, the inclusion of such an article on their website seems....childish to me - almost like point-scoring. Lest we forget, a "granthi" was jailed for abusing a little Sikh girl who came to learn kirtan from him. So before we're made to look like hypocrites, maybe we shouldn't gloat about the unfortunate characters that can be found lurking in ALL faiths?

Unfortunate is the time and culture we live in where people don't think about themselves before pointing fingers at others.

Any Sikh trying to use what goes on from elements in the Pakistani community towards vulnerable and dumb girls to make themselves feel better about themselves is a straight bewakoof. Simple.

Truth is that we too need to keep an eye out amongst ourselves and be careful too. It doesn't take long for ANY community to go downwards once rot/corruption sets in. Yes, keep an eye out and combat what happens from outside, but we must never forget that we need to continually keep standards high in our own community at the same time.

Kaam and lower behaviour seems almost intrinsic in humans and we do have our own perverts too. We need to deal with what we are facing without any gloating. Do things with dignity.

It's a delicate issue. Whilst I appreciate their attempt to educate clueless Sikhs about some of the shenanigans in other faiths, the point I highlighted (about the dodgy granthi) could easily have been made by a Muslim person who didn't sugar-coat his reply in the way I did. I guarantee that would have hurt our sentiments a lot more.

Anyway I've deviated from the original post. Apologies and once again I'd like to say that the SAS site's efforts are extremely commendable and a positive step. Just a bit of awareness here and there wouldn't go amiss.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
