Singh, any chance you have a .pdf version of this book?

Just finished reading this encyclopedia yesterday. Uploaded it onto scribd so anyone can view it. It's a relatively old book, but contains great information. Of course there is a lot of history missing (and some is biased, especially when talking about Native American horse riding skills) and unfortunately only the Marwari horse is mentioned in India. Just goes to show we have a long ways to go to reestablish these breeds.

There is a bit of confusion, on whether MRS actually got the prized horse he was after. As no-one from the Lahore Darbar had never seen the horse, it was said that the pathans gave another quality horse, caliming it to be the original horse, so they could get freed.

Also the horse was called Laelee, a feminine name, which suggests the horse was not a stallion as has been painted, but actually a mare.

I will have a re-read of my books later and refresh myself on this.

Yeah, I read about this as well. Whatever it is, it's still an amazing read and even the stallion given to Maharaja Ranjit Singh must have been exceptional.

May have been the actual stallion, who knows.

The actual name of the horse was 'asp-e-Laila' . Asp is the Farsi word for 'horse' and as we Sikhs know the prefix 'e' in the middle of 2 words, as in 'shere-e-punjab' means 'of'...as in lion of punjab. Thus, the name of the horse translates as 'horse of laila'...i.e 'Laila's horse'. It was indeed a stallion.

Click add reply and look at the bottom of the white text box, you will see a paper clip with "Attach files". Click choose file and choose the picture and hit attach the file and hit post once it's finished uploading.

That or upload it to imageshack.us and paste the direct link here.
