Khalsa Ji

Soch can also mean ishnaan (washing the body).

hmm..yeahh my gurbani teacher was telling me...soch is purity by ishnaan..

he said it meant: the soul cannot turn pure even by the ishnaan of the body "lakh vaar"

I just wanted to know that can it be BOTH or is it a set meaning of ishaan..?

Thanks!

'Soch' is used to represent thinking and bathing by Guru Nanak in Gurbani.

From what I can gather, traditionally soch was considered to mean 'think' in that tuk, but it was Prof. Sahib Singh who introduced the idea that it actually referred to a ritual bath i.e. ritual baths cannot make us internally pure, even if we have a hundred thousand of them.

If some one can find an earlier [than Prof. Sahib Singh] reference to soch as ritual bathing, please do share.
