Asian Network Nihal - Benti To Satkaar Camapign

This Nihal is a very sly presenter. He'll make out he's impartial but very cleverly lean on the side of anti-Sikhism.

I'm trying to get through to the show, if anybody else gets through - ask him these questions:

1) Would the serving of beef at a Hindu Cultural Centre be accepted?

2) Would the serving of pork at an Islamic Cultural Centre be accepted?

Currently, although the balance of callers is in favour of using the SCC for parties - Nihal himself does seem to be maintaining balance currently.

The whole debate is very ill-informed and based around the media inflamation of the protest.

Also amazing how the bibi ji involved in the show cannot even bring herself to admit that meat and alcohol was served on the premisis.

This lady keeps trying to justify how it's not a big deal with meat & alcohol served at the centre and the presenter (Nihal) has shut her up with a couple of questions she can't really answer.

BTW I've not heard the whole show, this is just from when I started listening at around 13:30. Then they started playing this bollywood music track and I've stopped :/

The debate begins and ends with one question: Was the sangat's contribution to the golak used to buy the building or fund its construction? If so, then the advocates of serving meat and alcohol in the center haven't got a leg to stand on.

EDIT: The Sikh girl talking at the moment is speaking very well and is being given the opportunity to present the facts.

EDIT: The female spokesperson for the centre is having a laugh. She's actually trying to challenge the Akal Takhat by saying she's living in this country & abides by UK law! :laugh2:

Satkaar were conspicuous by their absence. They can't run these national campaigns and then retreat into the shadows when things get a bit hot. I'm not having a go at them. I'm a strong supporter of their efforts but they needed to contribute to the discussion.

EDIT: There's this mistaken belief that Satkaar campaign orchestrated the violence. That's not right.

EDIT: If our male Sikh youngsters can't string a sentence together, don't phone in for God's sake. The lad on now just needs to step away from the phone. He's damaging the good work of the previous two Sikh girls who articulated themselves excellently.

EDIT: Please brother, whoever you are, bas kar. You're being torn apart by the presenter and you're making the protesters look like idiots.

EDIT: Uncle Ji is currently giving us a history lesson on contributions to Gurughars. Nihal keeps asking the question about why people are going against the Akal Takhat, but nobody can answer him.

EDIT: Now Uncle Ji is saying the 2006 sandesh isn't actually from Akal Takhat! You can't make it up!!!

EDIT: Lad on the phone now is criticising Hazoor Sahib regarding jhatka.

EDIT: JASMINDER IS IN THE BUILDING!!!! (metaphorically speaking. He hasn't turned up in Dudley at the cultural centre, lol).

He's now saying Satkaar are right-wing extremists. Saying Guru Gobind Singh Ji use to eat meat.

EDIT: Uncle Ji is saying Akal Takhat should go further and anyone associated with selling alcohol should not be involved in the running of Gurughars, i.e. such people should not be allowed on committees. He says he resigned from his position (not sure where) when Akal Takhat wouldn't go that far.

He also earlier condoned the violence - on both sides - which is fair enough. His final point was that those people arguing for the separation of Sikh as culture and Sikh as a religion are travelling a dangerous path. At the moment they are saying meat and alcohol should be allowed in associated buildings - in the future they could introduce further abberations.

EDIT: Another emailer slandering Satkaar as extremists and bullies. Nihal to his credit is sticking up for Satkaar - kind of.

Lots of clever emailers labelling protesting Sikhs as right-wing and extremists. "Imposing 15th century rules in the present". Probably those who were in the Dudley cultural centre on Saturday.

EDIT: Last email by Ekam??!? Our Ekam? Good lad!

EDIT: Good caller (Charan Singh). Brief call but very good.

EDIT: Another Uncle Ji condemning the violence and questioning Satkaar's activities. Give it up Uncle Ji. Go and have a late-lunchtime pint.

The end of the show. A few emails to finish off - a mixed bag. Satkaar being called a cult. Others defending Akal Takhat sandesh of 2006.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
