Healthy Snack!

I finally got my mata making rice using a few tablespoons of olive oil (she insists on making the tadka for the vegetables, but I want to just steam the rice). She just would not give up the butter! Its all good now and I don't bloat up after eating rice. Next step is to get her to cook some brown rice.

As for soya mince, yes I also cook a simple sabji using minced soya with peas which is delicious and very light.

Cottage Cheese is cheap and high in protein, add some fruits to it or cucumber and tomatoes with salt and pepper and it serves as a good healthy snack. Avocados are also good for you. Citrus type fruits such as oranges, green grapes etc are also good for weight loss. Have some raw unsalted nuts such as almonds (about 15 max per day) if you get hungry. Put next to a good exercise regime or Dand Behtaks, Kettlebells, Swimming, running you will shed that excess fat off in no time. Maintain a high intensity regime for at least 40 minutes to ensure you increase your heart rate to allow your body to start burning off your fat stores.

Avoid processed wheat such as white bread, white rice and pasta, supplement it with wholemeal foods instead but keep your carb intakes for the morning rather then evening time. 5-6 good healthy small meals throughout the day will keep your metabolism high.

I have a question for people asking about high protein foods. Do you guys go intensive weight training? If you do not, then you do not need a lot of protein in your diet. Adding a lot of protein in your diet if you are not doing intensive weight training can even cause damage to kidneys.

Great advice and something I've begun doing quite recently. Nevertheless I'm heartened to hear the same advice from someone else. Thank-you!

As for the 5-6 meals, I use to think it was utter rubbish ("how can you lose weight / get fit by eating MORE?") but I tell you it's totally true. As you pointed out, you just have to make sure its healthy food that's being consumed throughout the day.

Also, I find working out (cycling, running, etc) on an empty stomach first thing in the morning is the best thing to do. Its tough but it gets results.

I hope to reach a stage in the next 6 months or so whereby my weight training will be intensive but at the moment its not. I'm just edging myself into the routine of sweating again! At the moment, my protein intake is virtually non-existent.

Hehe... not intensive weight training, intensive interval circuit training for me at the moment...i'll move onto light weights to tone up once i've done this regime ..but you'r right bhaji, too much protein is bad if your body doesn't need it, thanks for the concern though :)

All you need is daal + roti + dahi (maybe milk) and you will be strong. Don't need anymore protein than that. The figure you normally see in body building forms is 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. This is a completely useless figure. Even olympic level athletes do not have that much protein. I'm sure we can all agree that those athletes are some of the fittest people on the planet.

I'm just saying that don't put too much emphasis on protein, eat a balanced diet, exercise and keep your stress level low. That's the key to living a healthy life.

Obviously your protein intake is not non existent. I'm sure you have daal, roti, dahi. You'd be surprised how many good vitamins and minerals daal has. It also has plenty of protein.

Funny that I don't really consider daal, roti and yogurt to be part of my protein in-take. I guess I should stop worrying then.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
