This is crazy, not beaten, but shot dead! What is going on!

Sikhs have to make noise about this, its bigger than the beating of Rodney King (black guy) by police in america. Can't believe it man.

Just speechless right now.

Anyone know any more details about this incident other than what's mentioned in the news article?

What a piece of trash sheriff, i want to find out who this is.

He will not get away with this easy. All this Sikh advocacy groups will be on this case like wildfire. These menacing neighbors should pay the maximum price for setting off illegal and dangerous fireworks. Bottlerockets are illegal.

This is absolutely not acceptable.

This must be responded to with maximum protests for publicity. peaceful means for now. Sikh groups should warn justice department that officer should be sacked & criminal charges be brought against him otherwise communal tensions may boil over

I don't understand the correlation between setting off fireworks and the shooting of the gentleman. The article isn't very clear.

The article left out a few key points, but i understand why, here's the full article. There's a racist and prejudiced tone in how the news was dealt in an unbalanced way:

http://www.news10.ne...d-Yuba-City-man

They claim he was drunk and tried to run over the 20 year olds acting like 10 year olds setting off the illegal fireworks and the cop.

The cop claimed Jagtar Singh was trying to put his car into gear to run over the Sheriff. It's ridiculous, he shot before he even put the car in gear. He's an American law abiding citizen who has been living here for years. The person who was being interviewed seemed like an irresponsible adult who acts like a kid. If you watch the news in the end the other anchor tries to bring balance to the story but the other prejudiced individual tries to shift the tone of the story as a hateful one.

United Sikhs and Sikh Coalition really need to get a lawyer against the neighbors and this sheriff.

Well thanks for clarifying the situation. I understand now. The Sikh website should present the facts in their entirety instead of trying to censor information which they deem might upset some of us. Its very unprofessional if someone can't understand the most basic of facts because information is being with-held by a supposed "news" website.

As for the case itself, the policeman needs to be suspended without pay, and the "kids" need to be held accountable for their part in this tragedy. Why even bother upsetting an elderly man like that? Worse than that, why shoot the poor individual? Very sad.

I understand why the SikhSangat.org left out those points, it was because they were unconfirmed points that the news uses to hype up the story. Sikhs should be able to tell their side of the story to the public. Nothing wrong with having a news that is biased in favor of us as long as there is nothing false or unethical done. We should be able to tell our own story our own way without depending on the media to portray it correctly.

At any rate, i agree with you bro, the sheriff needs to be discharged immediately and the 25 year old "kids" shooting off illegal fireworks need to be charged for inciting it to happen and doing something illegal. A US citizen could have made a citizen's arrest on these misfits.

There is no proof that 72 year person was drunk apart from his neighbor, who was in direct fight with him few mins ago, saying so. Toxicology report is not out yet and it will take about a week for them to release it. Even if he was drunk, still it does not give power to rookie deputy to shoot him dead; he had so many options like shoot out tires and various other methods to take care of this situation. If deputies start shooting all DUI suspects then half of this country's population would probably be buried by now. Singh's neighbors were harassing him and were using illegal and loud fireworks. He told them not to do that but they started harassing him by more fireworks in front of his house. As per other neighbors, fireworks were very loud and those ppl were even on their roof celebrating fireworks.. now that is crazy..

Singh snapped out and used his car to drive on public road; which by law should be cleared all the time. Yes he shouldn't have taken the matter in his own hands, but instead should have called the police but I guess he made a wrong choice. But killing him was very UNFAIR.

YUBA CITY, CA - Neighbors believe a homeowner's rage over fireworks in front of his house led to a deadly encounter with a Sutter County sheriff's deputy.

Witnesses said Jagtar Singh Kang, 72, was deliberately targeting people with his car when he was shot to death Monday night about a half hour after dusk.

"I think that he was probably just fed up," neighbor Tom Stinnett said.

Stinnett said Kang hated fireworks, especially the kind that were being used Monday night.

"There's a difference between safe and sane and what type of fireworks they light over there," Stinnett said.

Multiple yellow evidence markers in the 900 block of Mesa Verde were placed beside spent fireworks. Spent bottle rockets could be seen on rooftops.

Witnesses said Kang nearly struck a group of people as he drove his Taurus onto the lawn of a home across the street.

Neighbor Jordan Garcia said Kang tried to run him down when he went over to see what was happening.

"He was aiming for whatever he could hit. It didn't matter," Garcia said.

Sutter County Undersheriff Jeff Pierce said the responding deputy drew his gun and ordered Kang to stop the car before firing multiple shots when Kang refused to comply.

Garcia said Kang appeared to be trying to put the car into gear to charge the deputy when he was shot.

An autopsy showed Kang was struck once in the upper right arm and the left wrist. A toxicology report was pending.

The sheriff's deputy, who was not identified, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Because of the potential conflict, the Sutter County District Attorney and the state Department of Justice are conducting the investigation into the shooting.

Neighbors said Kang had lived there with his wife for decades and were puzzled that this particular Fourth of July led to his fit of rage.

"It just doesn't make any sense because he knew it was going to happen," neighbor Judy Ellis said
