when i first come into sikhi it really helped when i used to eat veg chicken burgers veg saugages to help intrigrate with the rehait. but i stopped becuase "MY" own beliefs were that if ive given up eating meat how can i justify eating a veggy chicken burger, am doing this for the taste. this is going back a few years

but this week a gora co worker was talking about a smokeless cigarate, it contains water vapour so could we not justify smoken that ?

(not saying im gonna take up smoken this new cigarate) it got me thinking about these veggie burgers

just wonder what the sangats take was on this topic

Bhaji, I believe we eat any food for the taste as much as for survival. A vegetarian has a preference to certain dishes as his tastes dictate, so he is following his taste buds as much as a non- vegetarian. We have to decide ourselves to give up the food because of an intrinsic, personally intuitive value, as it goes against our conscience i.e killing of sentient being.Even though the taste of the animal food may be admitted as favourable, the actual detriment to the conscience outweighs the taste factor. However eating a veggie chicken burger absolves me of the guilt/reasoning of eating animal food, but allows the pleasure of the artificial flavouring of the dish.

As for the smokeless cigarate it has no value as to my physical survival, smoking tobacco is just a habit acquired through mental conditioning, and learned social behaviour. It is neither necessary as an aid to my survival or to the well- being of my physical/mental development, as such it has no value in my life.Smokeless cigarate containing water vapour would only be of value to a person breaking the destructive and obsessive bad habit of smoking tobacco/nicotine.

Do the vegetarian burgers and other types of "meat but really veg" dishes taste like their real meat counterparts? I ate them when I was young but because I've never tasted actual meat I can't compare them to the real thing in terms of taste. However I don't eat even these kind of burgers anymore. Processed foods are not good even if they are vegetarian.

I actually tried some veg chicken burger at someone's house and I could have sworn it tasted like a chicken sandwich. It was good.

It's a good start for kids or someone new to Sikhi and slowly as they learn more about Sikhi and they are ready, they will automatically stop caring about taste.

I will never even try to eat these soybean made artificial meat tasting vege products. Sure it is vege and stuff but my mind will never agree to eat em.. Agree with singh559 that it might be good for someone who is new to sikhi and wanna get away from meat.. to all amrekan ppl.. go to Trader Joe and get the Masala Burger patties.. those are delicious..

Soya chunks taste like chicken. The meat tastes good, so you can buy replicated 'Bacon' Sausages etc. But that does not mean you enjoy indulging in eating meat, after all it's just the flavouring in the latter.

There's nothing wrong with eaten flavoured quorn or soya. My sister eats this stuff for protein and never once has she eaten meat, nor will she do so. It is a valuable source of protein - something that is limited in vegetarians.

Those substitute cigarettes still contain nicotine in order to satisfy the craving and should be avoided unless you are trying to give up smoking.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
