Gotta Learn Punjabi

He's going to start a punjabi workshop in Canada, i'm sure you can message him for material though. I think he'd be a good teacher since his first language is English. You can also enroll in your local Gurudwara's Punjabi/Sikhi school if they have one.

Thanks for replies.

Learning from my wife is hard, she just tells me words.... but grammar, etc. I need to learn systematically. I am finding a complete lack of language software/books for punjabi. She tries to teach me hindi/punjabi by watching those damn bollywood films... but I just space out. I think punjabi school is kind of centered on kids that already speak the basic punjabi from living at home. I really just want to learn it because the sermons are always in punjabi, an I just about fall asleep if the granthi gets long winded.

I think that Colloguial punjabi is what I am looking for, thanks!

My Punjabi was pretty basic until I started living with relatives who couldnt speak English, it helped me a lot.

Maybe you should see if your wife knows anyone like this who can pretty much put you up over the summer and get you up to speed? Or someone in the local community?

i face the same problemm. i think keeping company with people who speak panjabi is the best way to pick it up- reading the translations to bani when u do ur paat is also useful in helping building up ur vocab. just ask ur wife/fiance/partner to only speak panjabi with you so you pick it up as quick as possible.

To fully grasp the language, you would likely have to go to Punjab and maybe even enroll in a college course of some sort. (see the youtube video of the person from canada) Don't feel discouraged that you cannot understand the granthi at the gurdwara. You will find that even those sikhs born in the west, who have spoken Punjabi in a family environment since they were born still have difficulty understanding granthi's and katha. To improve your vocabulary enough to get to that point you would have to go to India.
