The fact is that there is a trial going on at the moment across 17 UK airports which will very likely result in posstive Dastaar related procedures being implemented across UK airports. As the UK contains the highest percentage of Sikhs than any Eurpoean country, EU states look to the UK when it comes to Sikh related policies.

This whole dastaar day in the UK is a complete red herring. The fact is that the UK government have been bending over backwards to help the Sikh community in regards to the 'Respect For The Sikh Turban at UK Airports' issue. And for all their hard work the thanks we give them is a large awareness day outside Parliament, when one isnt even needed! They are already aware! However, Europe is another matter, in order to have the UK Sikh airport policies implemented in Europe, it is very worth while having these awareness get togethers there.

In the last 6 months the Sikh federation and Sikh Council have achieved the following in regards to the 'Respect For Sikh Turbans in UK Airports' issue:-

March 22nd 2011 - Lobby in the British parliament in regards to Respect for the Sikh Turban at UK airports (and across Europe).

April 26th 2011 – 30 minute adjournment debate took place in Westminster. Dozens of MP’s attended the Respect For Sikh Turban debate and 15 managed to make a contribution in the 30 minute session.

1st June 2011 – Minister of transport Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers MP sent a 3 page letter to the ministers in the other 26 EU states. In the letter the Minister stated: ‘On 30 November 2010 the UK secured EU agreement for a trial that avoids physical touching of the turban by hand….”

15th June 2011 – All Party Parliamentary Group for UK Sikhs (APPGS) meets the Transport Minister Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers. The Minister has confirmed that the trial will be taking place in 17 out of the 20 largest UK airports. Fabian Hamilton MP who is the chair of APPGS will be speaking to the executives within the remaining 3 airports for a justification as to why they wont be entering the trial.

12th July 2011 – Sikh representatives meet the Transport Mnister – Sikhs want the UK trials concluded as soon as possible and the results shared with the European Commission to allow other EU member states to adopt the same procedures as soon as possible. The Minister discussed how pressure could be exerted on EU states.

18th September 2011 – Fabian Hamilton the chair of the APPGS has confirmed that a delegation of MP’s including himself and Sikh representatives will be travelling to Brussels to meet the EU Commissioner. Representatives from Italy and Greece will also be attending the meeting as there are specific problems in these countries.

Coaches from East Park Road Leicester have been cancelled.

Just been informed the coaches have been cancelled by Kuldeep Singh who is the Vice Pardaan of Sikh Federation (UK) and Coordinator of FSO. The President, Vice President, Stage Secretary of East Park Road Gurdwara Sahib are in favour of booking and had a coach booked but for some reason Kuldeep has cancelled.

Sangat Ji please advice as we and the Sangat would like to attend and support our fellow Sikhs in London on Sunday but certain person is over powering the request from Guru di Sangat. Previously we have taken many coaches to London during the June programme, just last week they took coaches to the Sikh Federation's Annual Convention in Wolverhampton, so how would this be different to any other programmes.

I humbly request if you have any suggestions please advice soon as possible.

In the regards to the coach being cancelled,

That's just another committe member who has lost his ankh and given under the pressure of so called leaders. Well done to other prabsndhsks for standing with the panth and doing your jobs, which is to serve the sangats needs.

In respects to G. Har rai , sedgley st, Edward st and a few other wolverhapton gurughars these are under the control of the owners of sangat tv you won't get coaches here.

Just shows how true they are too there word. Last night on sangat TV Kuldeep Cheheru stated several times he will not stop anybody going, his words were "He will not be physically pulling people out of the coaches and neither will he be telling people to go." So by cancelling the coaches you have gone back on your word.

This narrow minded stubborness is what is damaging the panth (yes some may accuse Mr Bal of this) but equally the role of Sangat TV and the jathebandian is not any better. They are doing far more damage in the long term by these actions and the sangat will remember this.

In the last couple of days the actual issue has been forgotten and the attacks have become very personal. Is this what we expect from our panthic leaders. What example are they setting. Why should the youth get involved in any organisation which is lead by these people, these leaders are too focussed on point scoring, they dont care about the views of of the average Sikh.

This is very Sad, what is happening to our Panth, people like Kuldeep Cheheru need to retire and let the next generation take over. At least the youth will have more things in common, there are so many hidden agenda's from the elders. I totally respect the elders what they have done but now they are making too many mistakes and taking the advantage of their power.

I think Kuldeep is upset that he didnt get the "People's Award" from Sikh Channel and maybe looking to get one from Sangat TV in the near future.I wonder what will it be - the category "Dividing the UK Community Award".

I feel the Sangat and Youth now need to stand up and show these people that programmes can be organised with or without the self made so called leaders such as Kuldeep and others.

Those leaders and organisations who dont show on the day will stand out like a sore thumb, so any future requests from these leaders FSO, Kuldeep representing Sikh Federation (UK) need to be ignored if they come on TV requesting for the Sangat to turn up to any future programmes that they organise.
