Are Younger And Younger Generations Forgetting Sikhi

we cant really say theyve forgotten it, i would say theyve never really been in it in the 1st place.

Gurdwara committees are the greatest threat to Sikhs today, because of their lumbering approach to progessive parchaar. At wednesfield gurdwara, it takes the committee months to get anything done.

I will give you one example.

In Jan this year i approached the Panjabi School Head, and discussed with him the neccessity of teaching Santhya to student who were able to read Panjabi well. I told him Panjabi School is focused on GCSE or other worldy achievements only with no teaching of Gurbani. I asked him to make a change whereby the 2 were balanced, so that kids were learning to read Gurbani and GCSEs at the same time, on a 66/33% in favour of GCSEs. I told him that it is important for kids to learn paath, and these kids will be the new generation of Akhand Paathis.

It is now Oct, 10 months later and he still hasnt done nothing. At a informal meeting today, he said that he would talk to parents in January. So that would mean whole year gone by with no progress.

I dont know why they are so backwards on important issues. or progress. but generally i get the idea that they are not really interested in the future of sikhi, as long as they get their committee positions.

Each one of us who calls himself a Sikh has to become proactive to promote the message of Sikhism to the younger generation. We have to lead by example so that the youngsters can look upon as role models. We have to teach them the basics. We should persuade the gurdwara committees to start specific programmes for the children where they are taught the tenents and history of Sikhs in a simple and easy to understand language. Nothing can be gained unless we all put efforts in this venture. Let us all resolve to do something concrete for the sake of our great relegion.
