Allegations of Beadbi at Liverpool Gurdwara

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

The Satkaar Campaign was recently made aware by local Sikhs of deeply disturbing allegations of Beadbi taking place at Liverpool Gurdwara. The Sevadaars sought to establish the facts of what was actually happening. After a number of conversations and a detailed email exchange with Mr HS Sohal from the Liverpool Gurdwara Committee, the Sevadaars were assured that no such Beadbi is taking place and the Committee considers that maintaining Satkaar for Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj is their primary obligation.

We then requested several times the local Sikhs who were making the allegations to provide substantive evidence of the claims they had made. They failed to do this. We have now asked them that they now liaise with the Liverpool Gurdwara Committee in a sensible and civil manner to resolve any misunderstandings that may have arisen between them.

As we are sure the Sangat will appreciate, the Satkaar Campaign does not wish to be drawn into any local "politics". Though we feel we have a moral obligation to investigate any serious allegations of Beadbi, and we will, with Guru Ji's and the Sangat's Blessings, pursue such cases where we are provided with substantive evidence, it appears disturbing that serious allegations of Beadbi are being raised for "point scoring".

As we have always mentioned, the Satkaar Campaign is a Sangat led and inspired, grass-roots Gurdwara Reform Movement. It is the duty of every Sikh worldwide to recognise their obligation to Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj and to work relentlessly to ensure that no Beadbi takes place in our Gurdwaras and to our Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj. We must all work collectively in a united manner to meet this overriding priority.

Sachseeker - If there's real Beadbi going on, why don't you take responsibility to sort it out? If you have an issue with the committee, how can YOU work towards resolving it? Satkaar is everyone's duty, is it not? Why are you looking to others to step up?

You clearly seem to be in the know as to what's going on, and you have an issue - that's why you keep bumping this thread. In anycase, have you even phoned the Singhs up to give your side of the story? The number's on the bottom of the post.

So not really investigated properly?

Is it not beadbi to call the police into the guru ka darbar when the granthi is trying to address the sangat to tell them that he was threatened by the commitee?

The local sangat making various allegations need to step up, substantiate and agree what the issue actually is. The claims seem to keep changing and just loose any credibility. If you personally know more details, then contact the Satkaar Campaign directly. Don't expect Sikhs from around the country to blindly gather outside Liverpool Gurdwara to escalate what, at this stage, appears to be a non-issue raised by a small number of locals.

We need to know what exactly the issue is in Liverpool? And please communicate the raw "non masala" version, we've heard a barrage of allegations against this committee but no evidence and all anonymous.

I have stood up.

The issue we have with the committe is that the Guru Granth Sahibs Parkash and Sakasan is not done every day and guru is kept "asleep for days on end.

This is partly due to the fact that the committee feel the need to change our Giani Ji every 4 weeks without notice or any reason given to the sangat. The sangat has never complained about a Giani Ji.

The daughter of the Vice President said openly that the Giani Ji did not know how to do his job. I would like to ask what is her qualification that she can comment that he does not know how to do his job.

Certain people are not allowed to enter the gurdwara as when questions have been raised they call the police and say they are trouble makers so therefore if the beadbi is going on when the committee is challanged Sangat is then excluded from the Gurdwara and not allowed to enter.

The committee has said to people of the sangat that they only turn up for Langar, I consider this to be beadbi as Guru ka Langar is exactly that who are the committee to say this to the members of the sangat.

Guru Ghar Ka Vajeer Giani Ji was threatened with physical violence is this not beadbi of our Guru.

The sangat were invited to a meeting last night at the Gurdwara when we turned up there was a padlock on the gate and the police had also arrived to attend the meeting only for it to be mysteriously cancelled for the second time. It would seem that the committee do not wish to engage in any amicable solution to the beadbi as they know that it has happened.

I would also like to say the current committe solicited the votes of Hindus to come to gain control of the Gurdwara is this not beadbi that a different religioun voted the committee in to run a Gurdwara.

Many stands have been made but the Committee uses it muscle to intimidate people and also tells the police that the sangat that complain are trouble causers.

I would love for the matter to be settled amicably as no sikh would like to see these things go on at their Gurdwara but if the committee doesnt answer to the sangat then who does it answer to.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
