Security, Protection - Provided To Politicians, Deras And Budha Dal Chief

On the tribune website it gives a list of people who are provided protection from national security guards and the police.

This includes the obvious, Badals and Captian. Namdhari and Radhaswami are also provided protection.

Bhaniarawale is provided protection. Ashutosh is provided protection. KPS GIll is provided protection.

But most suprising of all, Budha Dal Jathedar, Balbir Singh, is provided protection. Does leader of Nihangs require protection from the state? Surely Khalsa relies on protection from Akal Purakh and fellow Gursikhs. Maybe this is a mistake or just a lie form the tribune website.

I could never see Sant Jarnail Singh ji or bhai Fauja Singh ji having protection from the security guards or police.

It was the police and indian army that butchered so many Sikhs in 1978, 1984 and so on. We are living in strange times.

Ahead of assembly elections, security of VIPs reviewed

As many as 33 VIPs in Punjab have been provided with a security blanket round the clock. Even though every second politician close to the ruling party is accompanied by over a dozen gun-totting guards, the state police has officially shortlisted 33 “categorised protected persons”.

According to a communiqué to all SSPs and Commissioners in the state issued ahead of the elections, 33 VIPs have been placed in Z plus, Z, Y and X categories. The SHOs have been instructed to make tight security arrangements when these VIPs pass through their areas.

Interestingly, apart from 18 active politicians, religious heads, retired police officers and a few scribes have been provided security. There are eight persons in the the Z plus category, including the Governor, the CM, the Deputy CM and PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh, 16 in the Z category, six in the Y category and three in the X category.

Interestingly, while the name of Leader of the Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has been included in the Z category, MLA Bikramjit Singh Majithia, brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been included in the Z plus category.

A senior police officer instrumental in the preparation of the list said: “The list has been prepared on the basis of the threat perception and the inputs by the state and central intelligence agencies and Majithia’s name features in the top of the list due to the threat perception”.

Enquiries by The Tribune reveal that more than 2,500 policemen posted in various districts are unofficially attached with politicians. Despite orders by top cops, policeman are seldom sent back to their place of posting on account of political pressure.

DGP Anil Kaushik could not be contacted despite repeated calls on his cell phone. The ADGP (Intelligence), Suresh Arora, confirmed the list but declined to comment.

Extremely interesting article. I am surprised that Dera sacha sauda leader Ram rahim has not been mentioned on the list. On the flipside, what security arrangements do Sikh religious leaders such as the Akal Takhat Jathedar, Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and Baljeet Singh Daduwal have? Also what security arrangments does Simranjit Singh Mann have? Whilst I think it highly unlikely that they will have Government style Z security, it is important that our own guys are well protected as well.

How can Gursikhs accept the security of the army and police when they have killed so many Sikhs, done fake cases and encounters. The panjab police still harass and kill innocent Gursikhs today.

I would rather die than have the security from same people that protect fake guru'sand enemies of the panth like bhaniarawale and KPS Gill.

The mention of Jathedar Balbir Singh surprising. Surely the foremost division of the Nihangs, Buddha Dal, have the capacity to protect themselves. However this could be a mistake or lie from the tribunenews site.

Balbir Singh is the SGPC and Indian Government nominated leader of Budha Dal. The Jathedar of Budha Dal that is recognized by the panth is Baba Surjit Singh Ji. Baba Ji is currently in Patialia jail on false charges that were placed on them by the Punjab police under the influence of Balbir Singh. As well, Baba Surjit Singh Ji had to spend years underground as there were hired agents after them, during this time and currently Jathedar Baba Joginder Singh Ji Raqba Wale is leading the Budha Dal under the nomination of Baba Surjit Singh Ji.

Balbir Singh does not hide the fact that he's provided security by the Govt'. You can see him at Hola Mohalla surrounded by police guards.

Is Balbir singh from the same jathabandi as of late baba santa singh? If that is the case then i understand why government would provide them security as they were one of them during 1980's.

Funny thing is that SGPC doesn't need 36 national/state guards? For what? That is full rubbish and shows how state is interferring with religion !!! I seen makkar leaving darbar sahib complex couple of years ago but that sure wasn't z plus security (one pilot gypsies and his camry). Maybe they are given this security because of elections?

Having 36 or 20 or 10+ security team to protect one 24/7 is a sure ego booster and shows that person is highly controversial figure. Security for current holding state positions makes sense but ex-politicians family, police officers and even deray wallay shows how people are looting punjab's wealth day and night.

dera sacha sauda is provided security from Haryana's side thats why he is not on the list....And as far as I know Simranjit Singh Mann had some sort of state provided security upto 1997 when it was removed as he was no longer a MP or MLA.

Also all the journalists who are provided X rated security are anti-movement establishments with heavy links to either the BJP or Congress
