There is a lot of buzz around the upcoming Galaxy Nexus phone which will vanilla Android. I currently own an iPhone but thinking of switching.

Please share your thoughts on ICS and the phone itself.

PS. If you are in Canada, Bell and Virgin Mobile Canada have announced that the phone will be available December 8.

Unlike most Android phones, Galaxy Nexus does not offer a microUSB card option. The phone has been built to offer what is known as Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). So when you connect the phone to your PC, it will not be exposed as a USB drive. Instead the phone acts as a network drive so you can still drag and drop files from your PC to the phone.

What I am not clear on is that does the protocol only allow transfer of media files as it's name implies? Can I copy say a PDF document to my phone using this MTP thing. Does anyone have any info on this?

It is my understanding that Honeycomb, last major release of Android for tablets also employed MTP. Most tablets out there are using Honeycomb. So this question can probably be answered by anyone who has a Galaxy Tab or a Xoom slate as well. I'm looking at you balait_da_sher ;)

Yes stick to the iPhone with it's extremely closed environment. No thank you, I'm fed up of being told how to use my phone. :dry2:

I also have an extreme dislike for iTunes. Case in point, I bought a movie from iTunes. It downloaded it, but with DRM protection. So I can't play the movie using any other player on my computer! Only iTunes can play it. So how do I play it on my TV you ask? I have to buy Apple TV !!!

It's like I offered Apple a finger and it wants to swallow me whole...I'll pass.

I am using Android for 2 years now. I don't have any problems by putting files on my phone. It's pretty easy. Just put the usb cable into your computer and the micro usb in your phone. You can say, just load the battery, use it as usb drive use internet etc....

It's very easy and comfortable. I can just suggest to take a HTC Android phone or maybe Samsung.

HoneyComb is for Tablets, which has same functions or similare functions. For copying files from A to B you don't need Itunes like Iphone or anythign else. It's just like you put a usb drive in your computer.

I am using since 2 month an Android tablet with Honeycomb. It's great for reading bani and doing otherthings.

I hope to get Ice Cream Sandwich on my tab and phone. The userexperience will be greater with the new update.

The new Nexus phone has Hardware problems. I won't suggest to buy that phone.

Seeing as how the phone isn't release in North America yet, I'm guessing you are talking about the European models. Rumor has it that Google is working on a fix for that which implies it is a Software issue not hardware.

I need to experience Android in all it's glory without the bloatware Carriers install onto it making the phone feel sluggish. This is the only reason I want Galaxy Nexus.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Traitor to the iPhone!!!!! Go to android then... but you will regret it!

And who tells you how to use the iPhone??!! Everyone is like oh iPhone is not opensource so its ehmee... errmm hello its called jailbrakeing! :p

I personally haven't jailbroken my iPhone as I think its perfect the way it is... You must have an older generation iPhone to be thinking like this...?

iPhone wont get viruses... android will... and has...

and I'm sure iTunes no longer use drm? I always watch stuff from itunes on PlayStation to watch it on tv...

Also as iPhone is the ultimate Sikhee based phone with over 40+ Sikhee based apps plus new ones being released all the time! < And that not including the 20+ learn Gurmukhee apps!

iPhone is the most advanced but yet still simple phone ever. It's just pure brilliance!

Posted from the SikhSangat app for iPhone!

I have 3gs and not really interested in jailbreaking to be honest. It was really was the iTunes fiasco that put the final nail in the coffin.

I have checked the Sikhi Apps already. The only one missing is Gurbani Anywhere, that's okay.

People say the same thing when talking about windows vs macs. Windows gets viruses while Macs do not. Without getting into the validity of that statement, let me just say that I have been using Windows for over a decade and have not gotten a virus. It simply comes down to using some common sense, which a lot of people apparently lack.

You must be joking. While I agree that it is very simple, it is by no means the most advanced phone.

To be honest, I haven't completely made up my mind about switching to Android, hence the reason for this thread.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
