Dasvandh

Recommended Posts

Waheguru Ji Ka Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

I have started doing dasvandh, and was wondering if you knew of any worthwhile Sikh charities in Canada that are doing good work in our community to donate money to.

Kind Regards,

Aman Dhaliwal

If you are doing this noble deed, I suggest that you invest this money in your home village (assuming that you are not from the shehr) to propogate and strengthen Sikhi.

I dont know what kind of money you have but there are wide ranging list of activities you can help with in your pend.

If you want any help with ideas let me know.

Yeh I too agree with idea of helping youth from your pend, get them into sikhi.

Build a library or help the local school in buying books or computers with Internet connection to better there education, but with strings attached, ie there has to be a gurmat lesson a day etc.

Or what we done was to upgrade our local granthi so he can teach kirtan santhia etc and just pay his monthly wage. Better still support Khalsa aid who support a variety of much needed seva

There are so many people out there who need a meal- who are starving beyond belief. Why not put them first and help them survive another day?

It's weird because I was thinking yesterday that if self proclaimed sikhs got up and gave dasvandh or at least some money to the starving, many peoples lives could be saved.

Our gurus fed the hungry and deprived, why not follow their example. The guru becomes the chela and the chela becomes the guru, unless we step up and follow their teachings and examples, this won't happen.

Its a hard choice where to put your dasvand but it's even harder to take dasvand out, main thing your taking the right step, do bent ardas to mahraaj and tell him to decide for you where best to put it, afterall his the one taking it out for you and giving in the first place.

whatever you do dont put it in a golak you know that's just gonna get put into a saving account, put use to your money make it work

Save money and then go to punjab and spend it on random poor people or arrange something good for the community. By doing both physical (like going to india, buying stuff) and financially (money) sewa will give you a big picture of how you can make a difference in someone's life with the blessing of guru sahibs.

i would avoid organizations at all cost unless they provide 100% transparency of their procedures.

    • I was once a student of his for a few years. Unfortunately for me, my life took a different turn and I could no longer commit to training. Would have loved to carry on though. One thing that was really awesome about him is that you could literally ask him any question regarding ideology, and he'd answer it fully. Now, you may not necessarily agree with it, but he clearly laid out his reasoning, evidence and logic, which I greatly respected 🙏🏾.  The thing with rumors and keyboard warriors is that, they are exactly that, and nothing more. I've always encouraged all the naysayers that, if you have an issue, go up to him and ask. It really is that simple. That's what I always did. The akhara does not "follow" anyone. It teaches anyone who respects the vidiya and will not misuse it. It is completely free from politics. Again, this is something which Gurdev Nidar Singh Ji has cleared up many times, but people still don't get it... Finally, even if you disagree with the ideology, the vidiya is proper authentic. The irony is, when he taught our community, we did not appreciate it, we vilified him completely. And now, he teaches it all over the world to many martial artists who all attest to it's greatness and authenticity, and our people still have a problem ("you're teaching non-Sikgs" etc.). Lost opportunity... Incidentally, the respect and approval Shastar Vidiya has received from the martial arts community is infinitely greater than that of gatka..

    • Step 1: The kirpan comes off at night. Step 2: The kirpan comes off at shower. Step 3: The kirpan comes when you stay indoors. Step 4 :  Now sometimes you dont wear the kirpan when u go out Step 5: Kacherra comes off while having sex Step 6 : Kirpan has come off all the way. Boxers replace kacherra Step 7: Easy simran replaces nitnem Step 8 : Nitnem and simran all lost. Step 9: All K’s have come off. Nitnem lost.    Step 10: Alcohol, meat and bujjer kurehit After few years u realize how ur mind tricked u. I hope this helps.
