i heard s storythat sain main mir the saint that laid the foudation on Harmander Sahib when he was laying it he moved a brick or something 3 times and said that Harmander Sahib will get attacked 3 times . i dont clearly rem the story maybe he said that afterthe 3rd or 4th attack sikhs will get Khalistan or a land of raj for sikhs .

surely that all happnd during the afghan/pashtun/abdali times right? then the raj came with maharaja ranjit singh? I JUST cant wait for the day when we will have our own raj, thats wil be sick, n watchin khalistan beat pakistan/india in cricket world cups too!!

btw wat is the khalistan flag? it cant b the nishan sahib, obviously, but i prayed 2 god it aint that awful blue/yellow flag, thats disgusting. i reckon it shud b black, wit the khanda, black symbolising rebellious ppl

dw worry bout the flagcolor or name first lets get a homeland and once thats done lets create names but until then lets just use these names khalistan .

i think khalistan has got a terrorist type link to it but changing it wont help they will jut make the new name thesame as this . we have to educate the ppl

if i flag i wud like black, blue, white, kesri, yellow to be one ofthe main color n not use any thing but these color to make the flag and for the name it shud connect to sikhi and sikh history andthe land that is made it on like punjab means 5 rivers , and khalistan means land of the pure something that connects

The name of a potential Sikh homeland should come from our glorious history and mythology; something that has been mentioned in our scriptures, etc., much like the Jews and Israel.

What about Begampura? It has a great history behind it and could be used to explain to any non-Sikhs (and some Sikhs I'd imagine) what Begampura was. Like Kopsingh said Khalistan has been stigmatised by the Indian government, and I'm sure all the uncles and sons of the uncles who've shouted themselves blue in the face shouting "Khalistan Zindabaad" over the years won't like to relinquish the name 'Khalistan' so easily.

Personally I'd stay away from anything containing 'stan' full-stop. People residing in western countries have cottoned onto the fact that countries which have 'stan' in their name have large Islamic populations and we don't want any confusion on that front.

Khalkhand? Panjkhand?

Interesting thoughts, I think about this occasionally as well and agree with you on this.

Wow, perhaps you should reconsider your opinion as the concept of a begumpura city has been mentioned in Gurbani.

Begampura is a legendary city in Gurbani as HSDH pointed out above. It's the perfect realm of peace, truth and honour. But if other sects have co-opted it for their own slogans then maybe not. It's a shame.

I still wouldn't use anything with 'stan' in it. You'll get lots of people taking the mick - of course we shouldn't shy away from mick-takers but if we've got the opportunity to put ourselves on the map - as it were - what better opportunity to start with a brilliant-sounding name for our own country. Plus, let's be a bit imaginative! It's not as if Khalistan is mentioned in Gurbani and therefore HAS to be used.

*Cue someone popping up and telling me Khalistan HAS been mentioned in Gurbani and therefore MUST be the ONLY name for a Sikh homeland* :biggrin2:

when ever I think of khalistan I take inspitlration from Jews they have less population than Sikhs but they have their own homeland... We need Khalistan because Indian Govt is not giving us Justice.. Now what we have to do is to save our sikh brother and sisters from abandoning sikhi and be prepared because nobody knows when the time come... if you dont like khalistan then why not to keep it Punjab... because when khalistan will become reality we will snatch back our west punjab too.

    • So typical of Punjabi Hindus. They dominated media in North India during the 80s. They were the main culprits behind the spread of false propaganda that ultimately justified and led to operation blue star. They feel shamed to speak there own language and instead speak Hindi with their children. You will never see other Hindus whether they be Bangali, Marathi or Tamil Hindu with such an inferiority complex who is ashamed of his own culture and language.
    • Where do you live?
    • This is the garbage this dishonest propaganda journalist has sent to her Indian joke of a magazine. https://www.indiatoday.in/world/story/uk-guru-sri-singh-sabha-gurdwara-jarnail-singh-bhindranwale-slain-khalistan-leader-1684575-2020-06-02 Her dishonesty is here for all to see.  Here she is pretending to interview a girl called Meghan during the royal wedding for India Today. If you watch her interview it looks like the little girl is not known to her and she is interviewing her because her name is Megan same as Meghan Markel. What she doesn't tell the viewers is that this young girl called  Megan is her own daughter, Megan Tandon! Surely that must be against journalistic ethics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS2trBp4kIA   The girl in the tweet above and the girl being interviewed is the same girl. Here is an interview of her 6 years ago where she states her daughter Megan is 5 years old.  https://asianlite.com/woman/im-a-master-juggler/ AL: When did you move to the UK? And why? Loveena: I moved to the UK in May 2006 after marriage. I had come to the UK for the first time on a Charles Wallace fellowship to Cardiff University for 3 -3.5months. I ended up staying for 4.5 months or so, managed to fall in love with a Welsh man! Eventually, we got married in Delhi on the Feb 6, 2006 and I moved in May of the same year. Ours was a typical Bollywood Romance. What and how of it is for another time of course. I left my very lucrative senior producer job with four programmes in hand in Aaj Tak to be with my Welsh Love! For the first time, I was without a job in a different country [Cardiff then]; living with a man I had known for 3.5 months during my stay in Cardiff and 8 months over the phone and emails; left for him all that I had ever known back in India; sane or insane; risky or stupid cupid love, decision is yours. We have two kids now, Megan (5) and Arush (3).
    • Appreciate the response. Makes a lot more sense in the context this was written in.
    • The word "ਮਦ" means intoxicant. It can be taken as alcohol in some instances but in the context of the above it is refering to intoxicants ie bhang/sukh nidhaan which the Dal Panth has and does consume even today. The three stipulations are all part and parcel of the Dal Panth - jhatka, sukh nidhaan and neela bana.   Hope this helps.
