Dear Sadh Sangat ji

I Would like to know more about the origins of Ardas Sahib.

Who complied the basic structure?

i.e.

Salutations to Guru Saibhaans -

Acknowledgment of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji

Sacrifices by Singh and Singhnian

Takht Sahibs

Specify what Ardas is for

How did this structure come about?

Who composed the Ardas?

I appreciate the first part, acknowledgement up to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji Maharaaj comes from Sri Dasam Bani, Chandi di waar.

Who composed the rest?

"Nanak Naam, Chardikala, Tere bahney Sarbat da Bhala" - Where does this originate from? who composed it?

How did the Panth decide to put the benti for free access and Sewa sambhaal of Sri Nanakana Sahib ji and other Gurdwaras from which the Panth has hindrance in access?

Who composed other variations, i.e. Sri Hazoor Sahib Ardas, Sri Nanaksar Ardas?

Are there any references to how Sikhs in the times of Guru Sahbaans did their Ardas?

How did the Khalsa do Ardas, immediately after Guru Gaddi had been given to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaaj?

Gursikhs such as Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed? Are there any references?

If I have written anything wrong with reference to Gurbani please accept my apologies.

as far as i know the ardas was fully compiled by Bhai Sahib Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed.

If you go on Sikh media websites you can find various kathas explaining the history and meaning of the ardas. off the top of my head i know that sant singh maskeen, pinderpal singh ludhianewala and jaswant singh parvana have done so.

The section of the Ardaas which refers to the partition in terms of "Gurghar aur Gurdhamaa Jinaa Nu Panth Toh Vichorya Gaye Hai, Khuleh Darshan Didaar Teh Seva Sambhaal Da Daan Khalse Panth Nu Baksho" - does anyone know who composed this section?

Its quite sad everytime a Sikh hears or does this part of the ardaas as you're reminded how some of our important asthaans taken from us (location-wise at least).

Are there any learned Sikhs that can shed light on the original Post?

1. How did Parthaan Sikhs During the times of of Guru Shaibaan do their Ardas?

2. Who composed the Ardas Sahib. Yes first Part is from Sri Dasam Bani, Chandi di waar, as already stated in the O.P. - But who composed the rest and complied the format.

paaji Pal07 stated, Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed composed and complied the Ardas - which is indeed often quoted in katha's. If so, then who composed the references to the events after Bhai Sahib Ji's Shaheedi, including reference to their own Shaheedi, Bhai Taru Singh ji Shaheedi, which I beleive occurred afterwards?

3. "Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhaaney Sarbat da Bhala" - what is the origins of this? Was this Totally compiled by Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed?

4. Other variations of the Ardas. Sri Hazoor Sahib Ardas, Sri Nanaksar Ardas. Who composed them?

5. Changes along the way - i.e. Open Darshan and Sewa of Sri Nanakana Sahib- (i'm guessing this was put in after partition) who decided this? Akal Thakt?

6. on side note, The reference to 5 Takhts in the Ardas. When was the 5 Thakts established? i.e. officially recognised as the 5 Thakts, opposed to other historic Gurdwaras? Who decided this, and when?

If i have made any wrong references to Gurbani please accept my appologises.

Dhanvaadji

Thats very interesting. So the Ardas on this Tablet, does it still exist?

Any idea how Paat was rounded off before the conventional Ardas, period up to Kalgidhar Patshah?

The formal Ardaas we are familiar with today was standardised under the Singh Sabha lehar and rolled out after the Gurdwara act 1925, the further insertion regarding Nankana Sahib and Pakistan Gurdwaras would have been introduced after 1947.

The main structure of the Ardaas is believed to have been originally compiled by Bhai Mani Singh Shaheed with numerous additions being inserted over the years.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
