How Can Sikhs Become Role Models?

I would like the Sikh Sangats views on how Sikhs who are Sabat Soorat become role models for the younger generation

who are becoming patit today. How can we inspire the youngsters to change their mind set of aping others and

disrespecting the gift of kesh and Turban given to us by our Gurus? I would appreciate positive and realistic ideas which can

be used by each one of us to promote Sikhism amongst the youngsters.

Educate yourselves singho. Don't expect to insire others if you cannot motivate yourself.

And how do we motivate ourselves?

Please come out with some ideas for us to use.

I believe excelling in what ever field we are would inspire the younger generation.

In whatever you do excell and become number one. We have shaheeds in sikhi worth looking up to like baba deep singh at 80 gave a beating to an undefeatable enemy, the afghans who even british and american's can't even beat and are just paying them off, even alexandra the great couldn't defeat them. Today sikhs are denied the history of ever defeating the Afghans no one could beat them, if it was today we would have no chance of even standing in a fight with afghans, those singhs of the past were the best in the world, the tallest, strongest men of the world bigger then arnold, more clever then einstein and we let them be forgotten in ourselves first and don't try be anything similar or even better, with all the technology of today we could even excel above them.

Baba deep singh was a highly educated man in his time, he was of the highest of literacy. The shahheds of 1984 stood up when they had women being raped by police and others so forth however they are still under the shadows of baba deep singh and even sarbans daniye pita guru gobind singh ji who was a great scholar his pen was mighter then his sword, he was literate in great amounts a true polymath, had knowledge of philisophy, science, maths, many languages: persian, punjab, braj, arabic, hindi, sanskrit and more.

Go get a degree and work in top companys, if you own a business go become a billionaire company or get near, don't be second best. You will get nothing in motivating kids into gangs and reliving illiteracy, if you don't even get gcses no one will respect you, do something which will earn the respect of others all around you. Work hard, blood, sweat and tears, work as hard as you want to breath. Live the meaning of kirt karna, kirt karna is as important as naam simran. To work hard is a prayer of it's self. If you really care about politics and 1984 go do a degree or masters in politics no one will care about what you have to say unless you are qualified in that field. see this one: http://www.city.ac.u...tional-politics

No Singhs or Kaurs bother with deeper education, how many of the never forget 1984 have phd's in political fields you could write papers, books, videos. Get into the best investment banks, companies, law firms, what ever you do be the best. People all of kaums in the new generation majority have degree bscs, bas etc. even Masters ma msc etc. Most upna going on and on about 1984 don't even have gcse's no one is going to respect them or bother listening to them, before people listen to your parchar they look at your credentials it gives more worth to your word if you are educated, rich/succesful and professional.

Giani jarnail singh was illiterate however in damdami taksal's school he was the best of all gianis, the gandhis had degrees. Look at 1947 nehru, jinah and gandhi all went to the uk got degrees from abroad and for sikh representation a new convert who didn't even have year 10 test done master tara singh highly illiterate and most of the people on our stages are illiterate how many degree holders do you even see controlling gurdwaras. It is never to late to go into education, no matter what age you are, there are other ways into university even through btec, avce, apprenticeship, part-time, correspondence and foundation degrees and you can always change your profession.

Still you can always pick up a book and learn. You can open youtube channels and record your messages, today majority of people who are not-sikh think 1984 is a complete joke, sikhs have become a joke not by the doing of bollywood but by our own doing. Work Hard singhoo, give a high name to your gurus, your land, your family, your friends.. You need somewhere to stand and your education is for life, sikhi means to learn and education is the path. Become the best everyday learn something new, talk to someone that helps you, read something that helps you achieve your goals and become the best in what you do.

This is perfect. Inspirational, motivational and what we call prachaar.

Are you talking about Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale? If you are then you are mistaken.

Master Tara Singh was not illiterate, either, he was just not a good politician.

literacy and illitiracy have little to do with one's ability in political debate and reasoning, in Panjabi we call this "tark" and "nijaj". These are arts, which people are born with.

One of greatest lawyers in india, Subraminium was defeated by Sant Jarnail Singh in debate.

Dalbir Singh ji, you have really given a very rational and practical answer to the question asked.

It is our responsibility to act on the excellent message conveyed by you and excel in any field

we are in. For this we need to put in our best efforts and ask for Waheguru's help to succeed

in our endeavours. It is well said by someone that," No matter what you do in life, doing it well reaps great rewards. Whether this

concept is applied to your work or your health, your relationships or your

personal goals, making a commitment to personal excellence in whatever you

do virtually guarantees a life of fulfillment, success and passion."

And excellence will make Sikhs the role model for our younger generations.

Giani jarnail singh did not have an academic degree he was limited to sikh scriptures study and a giani in that and there is more to Sikhi then what giani knew in his time, we have found so many more books on sikhi more studies and more need to be written take that role model into the future. His knowledge of worldly politics and history limited however an example in his time and context indeed. You are in the west, where the levels of who and what you are is totally different. If you want to be a giani then fine he is a great example, but there is a limitation in that role model if you want to be an accountant, you can work with some of the words and applications of them. However you need to form the path and become the role models of tommorow, sikhi is with the satguru who is eternal. Even Guru Gobind Singh ji said "Whosoever shall call me the Lord, shall fall into hell.Consider me as His servant. In this do not have any doubt. " Bachitar Natak.

Guru sahib taught his sikhs to be tyaar by tyaar in this day and age we work with knowledge and education. If you want to show the way to others and stand on a stage then be a true role model. When you don't have GCSEs what are you going to teach to masses of people with degrees only a few humble enough will come along. Guru Sahib was the highest of scholars in his day and age. Tara Singh was a flop, it's a complete joke to say he was anywhere near literate as jinnah, nehru or gandhi, you can accept master tara singh as your role model if you want, but a true sikh of guru gobind singh ji's will follow gurusahib and be a true scholar. To be a good politician is like being an expert in Law, the guy was clueless about legal theory and what the british could potential offer, he was not fit to represent the Sikhs even after independence we didn't have good leadership what will happen to our children if we don't change this.

If you go to gym make yourself not behind anyone lift harder weights, run faster, work harder. While people are in the club, bar, flirting, raving, partying work hard, pray hard, do push ups, go read articles, do your homework, revise, study more, make more plans, think harder. Singhs in the past were the best not second to anyone, people from other faiths came to us, women of other religions wanted sikh men today it's the opposite, when you are the best in character, virtue, stature, position, personality and all other dimension then you will have raj. No one is going to give it to you, it is something you earn.

Mate in Sikhi we don't believe in being born into anything like with the gurgaddi Guru Nanak Dev ji didn't give it to his sons, they were earned by Bhai Sahib Lehna who became Guru Angad Dev ji. In nature vs nurture some thing are inherited somethings you become, even the biological sons of kings become spoilt, people claw there way up, people work hard, if you look at loads of succesful people some came from nothing, rags they earnt it. Nehru, jinnah, iqbal and gandhi worked hard to stab people in the back.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
