Bhagat Sheikh Farid used to dance in bhagati. Guru Gobind Singh gave the rehat to his Sikhs to became the kings of the world. What you will see is that there are several rehats recorded from various authors such as Bhai Desa Singh, Rehatnama Bhai Nand Lal Goya, you will find some from sau sakhis and amongst we have some fabricated rehat from Massands.

Thing is these days due to this hindu allergy developed after aryan samaj and singh sabha problem. Some people think they are muslims following shariah laws. We are not the taliban, under shariah law dancing and music is forbidden, you also have to cut mostaches and beard (when the mughals caught some singhs they cut their beards).

Under shariah law certain drums apart from one is forbidden. We use nagara and dholki for sukhasan, for battle. If you study how singhs actually fought the mughals, the allignement these are devoid of islamic means. Muslims employ various tactics to convert people one is by brainwashing them and confusing them, such as using sikhs against hindus or developping this allergy. Due to this hindu allergy loads of sikhs and reading gurbani wrong as well, changing bits taking bits out people like kala afgana and darshan singh want to get rid of dasam granth and portions of guru granth sahib.

You also translated man and mat wrong, even in santiya you use your brain. In punjabi you have several translations for brain and mind - budhi, mat, man, so forth. You will use your mat (minds intellect), man is (minds desires), man neva, mat uchi. Manmat is using that direction of intellect towards desires, if you desire to lust for muslim women you will then follow islamic ways away from guru sahib of being gurmukh and gurmat (that intellectual minds path of the guru). We are following Guru Nanaks path did he go around telling people not to dance and sing?

Dalbir singh Ji is spot on.

  • maaeiaa mohu eis manehi nachaaeae anthar kapatt dhukh paavaniaa |4| The love of Maya makes this mind dance, and the deceit within makes people suffer in pain. ||4|| When one is ignorant and thinks they are separate then the mind is inflicted by illusion (maya - hence the mind dancing). The ego believes it has separate thoughts and because of this individuality it has wants, desires, 5 thieves. This separateness causes people to suffer as the above tuk mentions.

  • bhagath karehi moorakh aap janaavehi |The fools perform devotional worship by showing off When one thinks 'THEY' are doing devotional worship (bhagti) then only Good Karma is established. However if one wants to be obtain sachkand (liberation) then it is only he who does bhagti. Also some take it a step further and wear bana, hold a mala, sit cross legged for hours to show they are performing devotional worship. When in fact eventually they get up from bhagti and affiliate themselves with maya again (we are all aware of this happening.) - They are fools. Also whilst doing their pakhand they are: maaeiaa mohu eis manehi nachaaeae anthar kapatt dhukh paavaniaa. Sitting cross legged their mind is wondering due to The love of Maya makes this mind dance, and the deceit within makes people suffer in pain.

  • nach nach ttapehi bahuth dhukh paavehi | they dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain.
  • nachiai ttapiai bhagath n hoe | By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.
  • Dancing here doesn't just mean actual dancing. Because like the previous tuks if one's mind is dancing in the love of maya then he/she is blind and all their actions including walking/talking/sleeping/dancing are done in Ego. When one is dictated by ego then they will suffer in pain - due to the ups and downs of life and how can their be TRUE devotional worship...

  • sabadh marai bhagath paaeae jan soe |3| But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||
  • poorae thaal jaanai saalaah |Know that the perfect beat is the Praise of the Lord;
  • ^Beautiful here you see one must die to the shabad. Now guru jee shows what true devotional worship is. Dying is of the ego (doership) and then true devotional worship can be done - otherwise karma will not cease to exist. So how can karma cease to exist when one sees God everywhere.. then all one can say is tuhi tuhi tuhi. wah wah.

  • hor nachanaa khuseeaa man maah |1| rehaao | other dances produce only temporary pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause||
  • guramukh bhagath jugath sach soe | For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
  • Other dances are false practices that induce doership and anything where the mind get's temporary pleasure. If the pleasure does not last then it is false. Loving devotion as applied above for the gurmukh is giving all your ego to guru sahib.

  • paakhandd bhagath nirath dhukh hoe |3| But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||nach nach hasehi chalehi sae roe | Those who dance and dance and laugh, shall weep on their ultimate departure.
  • Hyocrites are the ones I mentioned above - Fools. Pain is always going to be there if ego remains. So one Can dance, do work, play sports if the ego is dropped - then every act one does is all God's- it's him playing him dancing, him working. But ones who dance, talk and sleep etc with ego shall weep on their ultimate departure.

I hope this has helped

Summary translation of Innergear's post:

Innergear thought the Ciousness was on his/her side & were explaining well untill Ciousness took what Innergear was saying and turned it into a argument.

Innergear asking Ciousness does he/she think a Sikh shouldn't have a laugh? And that dancing isn't as amazing as Simran but Innergear thinks if you dance it's not such a crime that you'll end up burning in hell.

*that was my understanding of Innergear's post*

Maharaj is speaking to the universe that dance (please keep the shabad in context), but more specifically to those that want to use dance as a form of worship. And please go first listen to Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Maharaj katha on this shabad before commenting on it with your minds understanding.

Even before this Satguru tells us the mind is dancing and causing you to preform false dances (the ego), but here Satguru makes it very clear. Look how beautiful this line is and how much love Satguru shows toward the Gurmukhs. Satguru will in these final tuks tells us that the true dance is to sit in the Gurmukhs sangat and turn the ego into humility. The ego is making people do the worldly dance (either for worship or reception, nightclubs, etc; for fun; mind desire; ego) and think it is okay to do. But once you enter into the sangat of the Gurmukhs, they will tell you (like this shabad does) what is making you dance and what needs to be done so you stop doing these worldly dance.

gurmuiK suxxw swcw nwau ] (350-14, Awsw, mÚ 1)

gurmukh sun-naa saachaa naa-o.

As Gurmukh, listen to the True Name.

Now ask yourself why Satguru says as Gurmukh listen to the True Name? Why didn't he say as a human or as something else? A Gurmukh is a person who has his face (mind leashed to Satguru's teachings) turned toward the Guru and will not do something which will make his face turn away from the Guru. Before this line Satguru tells us how to become Gurmukh. Satguru says go join the company of Gurmukhs and learn from them the true meaning of Shabad Guru. The Gurmukhs say don't dance because these Gurmukhs understand from Gurbani that dancing is an action that will turn their face away from the Guru. There is a word Satguru calls such people, who turn their face away from the Guru, but i won't use it as many will think i am attacking and slandering them, but i'll say im the chief of these people.

When a person dances, what actually is making the body dancing? IF you say Satguru, then i'm have to ask who your Satguru is. DalbirSingh provides information that Bhagat ji used to dance. Did you know Sri Guru Amar Das ji Maharaj did devi the puja before being struck with the Shabad Guru. So if DalbirSIngh wants to accept Bhagat ji dance in the past as evidence Sikhs can dance, then he should also accept devi puja as a Sikh practice. Such is the the logice of DalbirSingh.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
