it amazes me how much rigourous debate goes over a simple question.

"nachan kudhan mun ka chaooo"

dancing is not a bajjar kurehit either

mind wants to dance - that is the key - what else can you do when you dance which will make you a better sikh -- nothing

dance for fitness - training - nothing wrong with it at all, i listened to music while training but over time started to lsiten to dhadii vaars while trainging now that is a must and gets you really going beyond your plataue stages in training. Hot dhadai vaars - in the olden days - kabaddi was played on dhadi vaars and also wrestling as your grandada and uncles - now that is mostly down hill.

I dont think there anything anti-sikh about dancing. Guru's never forbad it to my knowledge. When Sikhs of the past won battles and there was celebrations i'm sure the community danced to express joy. It's a normal human activity, also the Sikhs who practise gatka/shaster vidya do a sort of what can be termed as a dance before using the weapons.

I guess its where and how you dance can be of issue, like dancing in inappropriate places or wearing certain religious garbs dont look too good, dancing under the influence of intoxicants is a no-no for a Sikh. And also dancing up real close to someone like you see in dancehall music vids is inappropriate too for a practising Sikh.

I'm not going to comment further on the dancing as that is very clear to me as what Maharaj says and the Gurmukhs confirm it, but next time when your working out listen to Sri Jaap Sahib da paat. Then watch the Chardikala come.

Crazy are those who are saying that dancing is evil. However some members are just simply stating that it is not recommended for any 'Gursikh' to dance. In very simple words, gursikh character is that they never get too happy nor too sad, they stay at one level joined in meditation and gurmantar in their swaas. This is the natural lifestyle of a Sikh who truly follows sikhi.

It would be interesting if we can find any Mahan Sikh sant and jarnail of our khalsa panth who participated in any dancing form. To save your time, you won't find any of them dancing anytime.

What an odd comment to make. Have you ever read Gurbani or a Hukam saying cutting hair is evil? Makes you think how Gurbani describes evil or even if their is such a thing as evil in Gurbani!

Wouldn't you say their one state is of total bliss, which Sri Anand Sahib tells us about?

I agree its a question that solves a lot. But here is another question that will provide a lot to this discussion. Ask around from Taksal Singhs and see if Sant Baba Thakur Singh ji Khalsa or Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa would ever laugh? Some would say laughing is an expression of happiness, so why did these Gurmukhs laugh, but not dance?

In the society of the Saint's harming an ant is punishable. In the society of humans such act is not even paid attention too. Why does this take place? The answer to this mystery is in Satguru taught by Gurmukhs.

  • 3 months later...

there was a program on SIkh Channel clebrating 500 years of Guru Nanak Dev Ji visiting Bidar, as that area had no water and Guru Ji brouhgt water to this area.

In that there was a Nagar Kirtan and the sangatan were dancing, even Singhs in Bana were as well.
