Bottom line is he has served his time some 20+ years ago? This is a non story...if he had allegations pending or recent conviction maybe we would take a different stance but we all know the agenda of some shameless dogs within our own community who chose to bring up the past of others while claiming they are saints to bring the other person down so they phone up the media and give them stories to run with. The man Mr Rana has served his time has reformed and is brave enough to come out in society and make alot of contribution towards anglo-sikh heritage and events.

I believe in religion and the power of reforming ones character for the better....therefore these atheist man made laws and thoughts of western society should not concern us as their principles change every other year. Just look at what they promote in their society then wonder why ppl go astray brainwashed with junk and superficial celeb worshiping money chasing lifestyles. Some of these wreak-less animals in the media like to pigeon hole ppl for life when real life and real people are multi-dimensional, they try to criminalise ppl without giving them a second chance or chance for reform this is why so many people re-offend when society is shaped by powerful media gossip mongers.....

Question is, should have Rana shown responsibility and been transparent about his previous convictions for sex offenses? This may have meant taking a tactful back seat as a public figure head.

What he's done by not being entirely transparent of his past is give the opportunity to enhace the media stereotype of the "Asian Male Pervert", not to mention another media assassination on the Sikh image.

Best not to put yourself in the public front line if you have some serious baggage!

Exactly. That's the central issue here. Instead of seeking a seat at the top table, he should've been far-sighted enough to anticipate the reaction to being mere feet away from the Queen and her family on such an important occasion.

I find it very disappointing how his past has been brought to the fore at such a time. The crime is over 26 years old and he has served his sentence. I'm not condoning what he did. However, whoever has chosen to go to the press with this, you can bet your bottom dollar that they have a personal vendetta against Harbinder Singh and chosen a time when it would cause maximum humiliation. You can bet your bottom dollar that whoever has done this is from our community. It sickens me less that Harbinder Singh has been personally humiliated in this manner, it sickens me more that this myopic individual has not considered the negative effects this will have on our community, our image and on the Anglo-Sikh Heritage Trail , which, regardless of whether or not you like Harbinder Singh, has made great in-roads in terms of Anglo-Sikh relations and preservation of Sikh heritage within the Uk .

I am also disgusted at all the negative texts and facebook posts being circulated basically bashing and slating Harbinder Singh and cementing the humiliation. It shows the mentality of our community, we love drama and gossip and we love to attack and drag back our own.

Has anyone in our community stood up to say anything in his defence?

Such hypocrisy!! Some of you really need to question how you behave when a muslim commits a crime.

Here are the facts on this guy...

Mr Singh Rana was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault, 11 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of attempted assault in August 1986.

During his trial, it was revealed he posed as a doctor and tricked his way into women's homes. He then subjected his victims to internal examinations and injected them. He was jailed for a total of four years.

What he did, he did decades ago. He has done his time for the crime. No need to hang him for crimes he has already been punished for. He has reformed himself and has done good work from then on. That being said, he should have declined the honour of being with the queen. Rather he should have given someone else that chance so the racist Gora media would not have a chance to raise their finger at the Sikh community.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
