Sikh Channel Controversy Yesterday!

We are an incredibly naive community. You do realise that none of this mobilisation would have even begun without Sikh channel?

Not many would give two pennies for anything to do with Rajoana or any other recent campaign for that matter without Sikh Channel. Be very wary of the politics being played.

Do not withdraw support from any of the Sikh Channels, they are a bigger nightmare for the Indian Government than every website and youtube channel combined.

As usual our panth is being as stupid as ever and playing into the divide and rule tactic of our enemies.

Believe me, the Indian Government wants absolutely nothing more than for the Sikh Channels to be closed, they are terrifed of them. With a whole Government on the prowl against them watching their every move just waiting for an excuse to have them shut down, the channels have to be very careful. Aside from bhagti, Sikh Channel is politically the biggest and most powerful tool we have and ever had have.

Instead of withdrawing your support from Sikh Channel, give it MORE of your support- backers and donors have much more influence than internet groaners. Back it financially and get involved in the studio and behind the scenes, while your at it get politically and legally astute.

NONE of the positive action we have been seeing lately would be happening in the first place without Sikh Channel. Just remember it was Sikh Channel and Sangat tv who were the first to send reporters and film crews immediately when the Rajoana protests took place in Punjab. Without that crucial first hand footage nobody would have cared for the issue, how many would have known or cared about Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh Ji?

Without the Sikh Channel/Sangat Tv precedent Rajoana TV or anything like it would never have even been started in the first place.

100% agree wit u, but the only thing is that looking at sarbjits videos, hes not saying anti-hundu stuff, hes saying anti-indian govt stuff, which even a lot of hindus wud agree with, so im not quite sure wat part of sarbjits speech they wud find goes against ofcoms rules. oh well

..I want channels for the Sikh community to exist .... but they have to play by the broadcasting rules in the UK. Any member of the public can complain about a channel's content and Ofcom will investigate.

These channels - on many occasions - are breaking the broadcasting code. An Iranian channel was fined £100k and then shut down by Ofcom this year.

U can't believe this thread? Well I think we can all agree that sikh channel/sangat tv r vital outlets n platforms for our community, which without a lot of us wud kno nothing about the current problems facing our kaum. However rajoana tv's Sarbjit Singh deserved more respect than wat was given 2 him, such as the crap reasons given 2 him, regarding the "technical problems", then transmission magically came back on. Also he doesn't ever mention any religion as our enemies, jus the indian govt, he sed the exact same stuff on sangat tv last sunday, so y did sikh channel decide not 2 show it, that's wats annoyed sarbjit, jus read his twitter n his message on the 1st post of mine.

Sikh Channel has already got in trouble for having people just making the statements below by OFCOM! Unless the people are willing to pay the fines I think we should be grateful we even have a platform in the first place... the rhetoric of RajoanaTV is a definite NO!

“This is a message to the oppressors that you have done what you did and you can do more but we are ready to seek a homeland for ourselves”.

“We want to rule ourselves. If there is any other solution, tell us. There isn‟t any”.

“India is democracy, it‟s a secular nation…[people] confuse these two things for respect for human rights”.

“The Indian Government had committed “genocide” against the Sikhs.”

“In India there is one law for the majority and another law for the Sikh minority”.

“The Sikhs should realize that they are slaves”.

“In genocide, people are physically eliminated. But you can also eliminate them mentally by making them subservient and slavish. That is being done to the Sikhs in India”.

These Ofcom decisions relate to specific programmes in May 2011.

More recently the Sikh Channel did not promote the Remembrance March and Freedom Rally on Sunday 10 June in London. Despite this the number of SIkhs is attendance was 40% higher according to the Metropolitan Police. The Sikh Federation (UK) has this in writing. In addition, several days later on 14 June the Sikh Channel had a discussion programme of some youngsters, hosted by someone from Hitchin to 'condemn' the event. The Sikh Channel received a number of complaints. For almost 12 months the Sikh Channel has gradually been promoting those who are pro-Indian and are known to have direct ties with the Indian authorities (and RAW) and showing less of pro-Khalistanis, especially the main Panthic organisations.

The most interesting FACT in the Ofcom report is:

'Brit Asia TV and the Sikh Channel have common ownership. The licence for Brit Asia TV is held by Mr DS Bal. The licence for the Sikh Channel is held by TV Legal Limited of which Mr DS Bal is the sole director and shareholder.'

Perhaps this explains an inherent difficulty the Sikh Channel will continue to have. The many Sikhs (Sangat) that support the Sikh Channel need to know about the TRUE OWNERSHIP of the Sikh Channel and its licences.
