Taking note of the incident in which a gurdwara was allegedly demolished in Waraich village, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has sought action against the guilty.

The Jathedar demanded that the state government should order a high-level probe into the entire incident and act tough against its perpetrators.

Giani Gurbachan Singhclaimed the land illegally encroached by the dera involved in the incident was government land and the village panchayat had no right to sell or donate.

He praised Sikh organisations for staging a peaceful protest over the issue. The Jathedar has also taken serious note of a matchstick company printing “khanda” on matchboxes, which, he said, was a sacrilege of Sikh symbols.

Dera Beas has been taking over the land of neighboring villages by blocking approaches to the houses, this way forcing the peoples to sell. Then on the land so acquired they dig deep pits around the houses exposing the foundations of those houses which they were not able to buy; thus forcing their owners also to sell. With the help of government the electricity to the remaining houses is cut off thus forcing the most of the villagers to abandon the village. All this goes no with the help of government officials despite the petitions and complaints filed with the authorities. No action is taken by the authorities to stop this happening. In the article below pictures show such a situation. The article is about the village Varaich. The article was reprinted in the news paper ( the original article appeared in year 2009). The Public approach road to the village shown as blocked by illegally erecting a wall (on public road). Two Gurdware destroyed and then the land taken over by asking the villagers to sign on the dotted line .

Yesterday it was reported that a news crew of Sangat TV UK was attacked by Dera Radhaswami followers when the news crew went to a village where the land of villagers was being dug around to close access of the owners to their land. Below is a report about that incident.

Detailed report on attack on Sangat TV crew by Dera Radha Swami men

Jalandhar, Punjab (July 29, 2012): Senior Journalist H. S. Bawa, editor of YesPunjab.Com has release a news report providing extensive inforamtion regardig attack on Sangat TV (UK) crew members by Radha Swami Dera men.The news report reads as follows:

The men of Radha Soami Dera at Beas, which preaches non-violence, attacked the crew of Sangat TV at village Jodhe near Beas in the district of Amritsar. However, both the members of the crew were lucky enough to escape the attack.

The crew members – Baljeet Singh, a correspondent and the camera man Monu – had to virtually run to save their lives as both of them were attacked by Dera men on Saturday.

Though the police have been informed of the incident and a formal complaint has been handed over to an officer not less than the rank of a SP, there has been no action as yet.

Talking to ‘Yes Punjab’ Baljeet Singh told that Sangat TV had planned to shoot a documentary depicting the grievances and agony of people living in the neighborhood of the Dera as they had either been made to ‘sell’ their land or houses or they are being coerced to leave their land or house for the expansion of the Dera.

Patiala based Baljeet Singh told that they had gone to cover village Bal Sarai Khurd and were led to village Jodhe by some villagers who wanted to show them how the Dera was digging the land near their fields so as to force them to yield their land to the Dera.

“At about 4.30 pm as we along with the villagers reached there and saw about 200 people doing the job, the Dera men supervising the operations called upon the men to attack us and wasting no time men in groups ran towards us with whatever they had in their hands or whatever they could lay their hands on. We ran towards our car and were lucky to reach and start the same before we could be caught. However, as we ran to save our lives we fell in irrigated fields as a result of which we lost our shoes, a Camera, our mobiles and some other valuables and most importantly and sadly my turban also fell there”, he added.

“As they ran after us, we thought that if caught, we would definitely be killed by the group. But we were lucky enough to reach and start our car. We took the nearest available road which took us to Ghuman.”

At Police Chowki Ghuman an ASI Palwinder Singh told that this was the area under the influence of Dera and as such in a diplomatic way refused to register his complaint or help him.

Baljeet Singth then brought the matter into the notice of SHO Beas and later SSP Amritsar (Rural) Preetpal Singh who sent SP (D) Jagdeep Singh to talk to the journalists already gathered in favour of the Sangat TV crew.

The SP (D) was handed over a written complaint against the Dera men who assured that an FIR would be registered by Sunday evening.

Talking to ‘Yes Punjab’ SSP Preetpal Singh said that the enquiry of the case has been marked to SP (HQ) Manmohan Singh who would be submitting his report by Monday or Tuesday.

“We would definitely take the action, on the basis of the conclusion of inquiry report”, he said.

It may be recalled that Journalists Davinder Singh Bhangu of Punjabi Tribune and Rajinder Rikhi of Dainik Bhaskar were attacked by Dera followers on May 18, 2008. Davinder Singh Bhangu was thrown into 40 feet deep dig while Rikhi was abducted, taken to Dera and badly beaten by dera followers.

The Dera is already facing protests from Sikh Sangat due to the dismantling of a Gurdwara at vvillage Waraich.

A press released issued by Randhir Singh, trustee of the Sangat Trust UK read that the trust strongly condemns the attack. It urged all sections of media in Punjab not to take it as an attack on individual as it was an attack on the freedom of the media.

Expecting active support from the media in Punjab, in this matter, S. Randhir Singh demanded from Police and Civil Administration besides the government of Punjab that strong action be taken against the culprits and safety of field journalists should be ensured.

Akal Takht gives clean chit to sect

Only a day or two ago, Jahtedar Giani Gurbachan Singh of Akal Takt said that the decision would be taken in the meeting of Mukh Jathedars of all five Takhts on August 7, 2012. So, now what was the hurry ? Was it because S. Simranjit Singh Mann was going to go to the site today, or was the Jathedar expecting some other Jathedar going to take different view on the matter on August 7, 2012 in the meeting than that of Jathedar Gurbachan Sngh?

Gurdwara demolition: Akal Takht gives clean chit to sect

Last Updated: Sunday, July 29, 2012, 22:17

Amritsar: Giving a clean chit to followers of Dera Radha Soami sect, Sikh temporal body, the Akal Takht, on Sunday stated the community had not indulged in any blasphemous act in demolition of a gurdwara in Punjab's Warrich village.

Members of Sikh community had alleged that followers of Radha Soami Sect Beas had demolished an old gurdwara on a plot owned by them at Warrach village in Beas area of Amritsar district, following which SGPC set up a three-member panel to investigate the matter.

Talking to reporters here today, Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh said the SGPC fact finding committee revealed that the Gurdwara on the disputed site and Sikh holy book 'Guru Granth Sahib' had been shifted long ago and recitation of Guru Granth too had stopped at the Sikh temple.

Jathedar further said that the complaint filed before the Akal Takht was in regard to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and not in reference to the the demolition of the Gurdwara.

Gurbachan Singh asked all Sikh organisations to stop their protests and said strict action will be taken against those who don't adhere to the decision.

Members of Sikh community and followers of Radha Soami Sect Beas were at loggerheads over a disputed land that belonged to Warrach panchayat and was allegedly sold to Dera Radha Soami Sect without obtaining the mandatory approval from Director Panchayats of Punjab Government.

Tension mounted further after members of Dera Radha Soami sect allegedly destroyed a section of the one-room gurudwara existing on the land.

To resolve the dispute, the Akal Takht had directed the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar to form a three-member committee to investigate into the matter and submit its report.
