Asking For Forgiveness?

Hi, I was wondering if any of you could help me with this question as it has been bothering me for way too long now.

This might be a bit long, so bear with me.

Basically, I'm a 19 year old girl who is NOT amrit dhari and not very religious (i cut my hair etc)

however, I have always believed in God and go to the gurudwara and pray more than I used too.

Anyways, I have committed many sins throughout my teenage years and not so long ago, I did some

things with a guy and I am not exactly proud of it..

Now, of course..this regret and guilt is killing me and I do not have anyone to reach out but God himself.

However, I seriously feel ashamed in front of him for the "lust" activities I have been through.

I just can't deal with this anymore, I've been super depressed and the guilt is literally finishing me off from the

inside day by day. I asked God for forgiveness but I have not come to peace with myself. You could say, I am a girl

that beats herself down over and over again. My sins have been big but my regrets/apologies are even bigger, believe me.

Okay...so the main question, I guess...How do I ask for forgiveness? How will I know I have been forgiven?

Does God even forgive these sins? I want to start on the right path...how do I control my mind/thoughts/actions?

Could I ever cleanse my soul from these sins or will I have to go through the bad things because of this? (Karma)

I've seriously realized all the things I have done were really bad! At this point, I would like to change myself but

don't even know where to start...I just keep calling myself "stupid, <banned word filter activated>, worthless" etc :(

Confused & lost, please help!

So often we look at our past so much that we forget there is a present and a future as well. What has passed can not be changed, focus on the present which will in turn make your future better. The

Bhenji since you have realized your mistakes and want to go on the right path, read gurbani pray do seva. God will forgive you the instant you ask for forgiveness in total remorse. Stay strong and rea

sins are washed off through meditation on Naam and attendance in the satsangat. I guarantee you that peace lies down this road.

i've done somethings I'm not proud of and made myself very depressed etc in the process which also has a negative effect on the body. i think you can make things worse for yourself like this as theres only so much stress your mind/body can bear. Its good that you have some regret for your actions but dont be too hard on yourself so you harm yourself. Making a few mistakes here and there doesnt make you a bad/evil person. For some people it may be neccessary to make mistakes in order to learn and teach others from your own experience to help them also.

You cant go back and change things. You've recognised some of your mistakes. Now look to improve yourself. Everyday is an opportunity to better yourself. Also take time to reflect on how your in this Mortal body but your actually an Immortal being so how is your experience relative to that?

Some very good suggestions in posts above mines also.

I just recently turned 18 but yeah I'm dealing with the same issue as you bhenji. I just do ardas to guru ji to protect me from maya and just ask for forgiveness when u do ardas. Guru sahib is bakhshanhar he is a forgiver, we are not perfect and we will never be perfect, only guru ji is perfect.

I am a sinner, You are the Forgiver. ||1||

When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;

if you have committed the four great sins and other mistakes; even if you are a murderous fiend

I have committed many sins too, esp related to kaam. I am such a low life and seems that I have destroyed my human life. Just relying on Guru ji to give me the strength so that I can follow his hukam. But I cannot believe how mad I had gotten, I realize my mistakes but still...I just keep doing ardass and believe one day things will be better

go to satsangat everyday. there is salvation there and shelter. the energy of meditating in sangat is immensely powerful. over time this energy will build up the power inside of you, you will be empowered to change your bad habits and to stand tall again.

when dealing with wrongs from the past i find that two things are very very important. one is to forgive others and ourselves too. the second is to learn what we can from it. sometimes people ask why did this happen? b/c we almost never receive confirmation of the reason why this question can destroy our peace of mind. don't bother asking it. it's bhana, leave it at that and ask what can i learn from this? how can i use this to make me a better person/sikh?

    • This is what I'm talking about. Can you imagine this happening in Europe and the USA let alone India? Apne are just as bad as respecting whites over others and this is seen in pretty much every other ethnic group. The main reasons are- the vast majority of white nations don't have abject poverty and they have invented and discovered so many things. People therefore think that whites are rich and that also gets them respect. Do you think a Korean or Japanese will get respect by the average Indian in India? They'll probably get mistaken for a poor Nepali or North East Indian and be called chinky.
    • True bro in 2011 when 1.7% of Indians were enumerated as Sikhs that translated as 20million Sikhs back in 2011. The problem is that with a vastly below replacement fertility rate since 2011 there is no guarantee that Sikhs will be much more than 20million by 2050 or the 2051 census when the Indian population is projected to 1,650-1,700 million with Muslims on track to be 350million among that figure. The Sikh population in India needs to be 100million plus strong by the planned census of 2051 if we diaspora Sikhs do our best to financially support education, healthcare and parchaar to the most economically weak communities in Punjab and throughout India.
    • Scomo is just doing what every politician does. Remeber when there were state elections a few years ago, had a few politicians come to the gurdwara on a few Sunday afternoons while all the aunties and uncles could not understand a thing.
    • Day 1 finally got up at 4am today without alarm clock, hoping to keep it going this summer
    • Not really but been to some south east asian countries like Thailand,Singapore and stuff but I'm talking about like korea and japan and the people from there that i have met. They seem just as materialistic. They also see the world in hierarchies and think whites at top and then them at 2nd and all of us below them. I had many east asians in my uni including international students. They will respect white people way more than they will respect other people of color. Maybe it was the past that the societies had an influence of confucion thought like in Punjab sikhi uplifted many people but look at the state of it today. Even Korea now is largely influenced  by Christianity since America helped them rebuild their society and anyone can tell its a largely materialistic society at this point. Also the spiritual Japanese culture is long gone now.
