Animals don't suffer when you eat them, they just die, like swatting a fly, even though in my personal opinion, swatting a fly is worse than killing for food because at least when you kill for food, there is a greater purpose in motion than just temporary discomfort

I have already watched these peta videos....but I know in Native American culture, we hold the animals we eat in the highest respect freeing their souls to move on to the next life in peace. There are places to buy free roam native american meat too.....

but this is beside the point, I mean, I'm not talking about the way the mainstream food processors raise and kill animals, yes it is cruel...

And besides, I'm not even sure that eating meat IS right, I have considered vegetarian for a long time, but when I try it feels like I am missing something so important in my diet. and I get sick more easily when I don't eat meat

thats the issue I am raising, not whether eating meat is right or wrong for sikhs, (stop taking everything so personal) it's whether there is a time, people, and place for eating meat.

But also, I have done research that says that if everyone stopped eating meat, we could almost eradicate cancer altogether. but I just wonder if that is because of all the steroids and other artificial things put into meat in the big business because I know my people have been eating meat for thousands of years and it never affected them negatively until recently.

Oh and one last thing, am I not allowed to ask questions? How am I to come to a better understanding of the Sikh religion and possibly a better way of life if I can't ask important questions...

To me only a coward would avoid the question before trying to answer it...someone who doesn't have the answer....and I'm not trying to offend anyone, but that is the way it is coming off to me, like you are trying to dodge the question rather than explain to me in a loving, convincing way that what I have been taught may be wrong and then let me make my choice.

Just because you've had to defend your beliefs in the past doesn't mean you should never have to again in the future

That is exactly the point Lori. How would we feel if someone slit our throat and then ultimately devoured us? Bhagat Kabeer jee is thus challenging meat eaters to do that.

Agree with the above, so stop dodging the question i put before you. You state you don't follow modern Islam, but with the same breath you say you can't read Gurbani because you will go to hell. So which is it? This is your logic.........hey guys i want to understand Sikhi, but i can't read Gurbani, one poster presented Gurbani here and you read it, then responded to it. So are you going to hell now. This is how sound your questions are.

Infact the Sikhs who are responding to you are being super nice. If anyone of their teachers saw they were discussing with you after you stated.............I don't follow modern Islam, but i can't read Gurbani because i will go to hell.........the teacher would have surely punished them. When such things are stated. It is very clear the person is not hear to learn and has not one ounce of humility in them, but are here to teach and spread their fanatical belief system.

Some people are used to dishing it out, but once it comes back to bite them where it hurts, then they scream...........I'm a victim, they don't let me ask questions. No one cares for the little boy that cries wolf, when there isn't one.

I dont think this thread should be closed. Maybe some people who have been around on this forum have discussed this several times over the years, but others have not really had teh chance to discuss something like this. Yeah maybe threadstarter can go find a 3,4,5 year old thread, but if he has questions who would he ask since alot of old threads are closed and maybe the olderposters are not active anymore?

Speak for yourself only please. There is no punishment in Sikhi for being nice to even those who might be your enemies. Guess what, some Singhs did take Bhai Kanhaiyya jee (or Bhai Kanhaiyya Singh jee rather) to Guru Sahib, but ultimately Guru Sahib showered His love upon Bhai Sahib. People like me can only wish and dream to be 1% of Bhai Kanhaiyya jee.

Having said that, I must say that you do raise an important point. Lori, we've been trying to explain Sikhi using Gurbani. If you can't be bothered to read/understand it (if you haven't that is), I am sorry but its just pointless to waste time trying to explain anything. Gurbani is the foundation of Sikhi, and if you choose not to read it to understand Sikhi, I guess we can't help you out here. We don't have a problem with you asking questions, but please, we don't have fairy tales either for entertainment. The holy words that you are blessed to read have been gifted to the Sikh nation after much sacrifices. The Gurus embraced martyrdom but held high the glory and esteem of these holy words. Please answer us, once and for all, if you are ready to read and respect Gurbani.
