According to him Guru Gobind Singh Ji came to him in disguise of a Sikh. Stayed the night at his place and left in the morning. They left a bag. When opened the bag contained sources regarding maharaj's life. He (Kavi Ji) had finished Nanak Prakash Granth and Suraj Prakash. He only needed confirmation on a few aspects of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's earthly sojourn. The material in the bag provided it.

I'm not sure that he would have been considered a great historian as well as a scholar if this was true. He would simply be someone who got lucky by finding such bag and that would help conclude his research !!

I don't think so and find it hard to believe because researchers do not go bywhat they find in a bag !!!!

Anyway, these accounts in PPP for Banda Bahadur and Guru Gobind Singh ji..etc.etc... have been put together from many persian, mughal and sikh sources. I woudl assume that we are getting the majority of information in good faith and accuracy in his sense.

Rattan Singh Bhangu author of prachin panth Prakash was the grandson of Bhai mehtab Singh who with Sukha Singh beheaded Massa Ranger. A lot is written by Bhangu & Kavi Ji about Akali Nihang Singh maryada that the wider panth most likely will not accept or agree with. It is important to accept that the Akali Nihangs are a distinct military order created to serve & protect Dharam & thier maryada is not the same as a civilian Sikhs because they carry out a different function.

In those days not every Singh became Shaheed. Some suffered injuries such as cut of arms or legs and unlike today did not have hospitals where they would be administered pain killers such as morphine etc. Opium & Sukha are natural products derived from nature & are excellent pain killers hence there use. From my knowledge the fauj use to carry with them haldi, salt, neem & sukha to help clean & heal wounds. Mahaprashad was initiated by Guru Hargobind Sahib at Akal Bunga when the Akal Sena was formed & thier warfare training started.

Nihangs are not a distinct order. They are the same as the Khalsa and took khande di pahul amrit like every other Amritdhari.I love Nihangs from the bottom of My heart but they are no different than me or you.

"hum akali sub ke vali, humra panth 'niaraa' hai...." (Nihang Singh bola that forms part of 'salok dumalle da')

The 'panth' spoken of here is the Khalsa panth, read through history and you will see that the Akali Nihangs are the Khalsa panth, not what is considered 'Khalsa' today. Baba Nihal Singh has said this, baba Santa Singh also. Even Giani thakur Singh and baba hari Singh have said that the original Khalsa was the Akali Nihangs in thier katha. There's even a Sakhi of Dhan Dhan Baba Thakur Singh ji saying that the Akali Nihangs were the original Khalsa who we all come from.

are you sure your citation from PPP is correct....it seems like the parsang of Ghanni Khan and Nabhi Khan and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee enacting as an Uch Da Pir after machiwara......Here meat was offered by muslims as halaal meat and Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh jee turned it into Pancha Amrit Karah Parshad. At machiwarra Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji offered coins to a man to stop him from exposing the Guru to the evil regime. Guru Sahib eventually did chatka stroke with his shamsheer sword and killed him.

the sakhi in PPP states that the muslims gave Guru Ji and the SIkhs some meat to eat, but the Sikhs said the pir is keeping roza, but then the muslims said you eat. The Sikhs said to the Guru protect us, and Guru Ji replied do tegha of the food beofre you eat it. So the SIkhs did this and the muslims replied what ios this you are doing? The Sikhs said this is the latest trend to come from Mecca, and so the muslims asked no more.

That is the story of Macchiwara.

But for eye-witness historical account read Amarnamah written by Dhadi Nath Mal.

If I'm not mistaken this is where Gurdwara 'kirpan bhet' is too mark that incident.

However, the story of mahraj eating Mahaprashad whilst staying at the house of a khattri is also recorded in PPP

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
