Most disappointing that the Sikh Channel has not even started the scroll, let alone produce and show a Promo.

Initially the Sikh Channel confirmed it would start the scroll on the evening on Friday 28 December. On Saturday 29 December the Sikh Channel were chased and said it did not have space for the scroll as too many other programmes were being advertised, but it would be put on as soon as possible.

It is now Monday 31 December and many of the programmes previously advertised on the scroll have finished. It is hoped the event will be advertised as soon as possible or may be interpreted that the Sikh Channel does not want to highlight the Shaheedi of Satwant Singh Ji and Kehar Singh Ji.

Those in the Management Committee at Slough Gurdwara (who were also responsible for calling Dhunda) have thrown their last dice - tried to approach Sangat TV to get the Sikh Federation (UK) name and pictures removed from the Promo and also suggest Jagowala Jatha is not welcome.

Sangat TV referred them to Amrik Singh, Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK).

One of the Mangement Committee members has telephoned Amrik Singh and has been told in no uncertain terms that the Sikh Federation (UK) is a SIKH ORGANISATION (as opposed to an organisation from another faith) and the name will therefore not be removed from the Promo and also as the Management Committee agreed on Wednesday 26 December that ALL speakers and Jathas would be those specified by the Sikh Federation (UK) who had planned this event almost a year ago the Promo was consistent with this agreement.

The person who called said he personally did not object to the Sikh Federation (UK) or the speakers, although he did indicate his opposition to the Jagowala Jatha.

Amrik Singh in conclusion said:

'Give a clear message to those who do object to the Sikh Federation (UK) and the speakers and Jathas arranged to come along on Sunday 6 January (and agreed by the Management Committee) to come along and stop them from speaking and if we have 'hemut' we will speak'

Maybe it's a symptom of the underlying issues the Sikh Channel has with the Sikh Fed rather than anything else? Even if that is the case, the Sikh Channel should put those issues to the side and advertise this forthcoming programme.

Ths Sikh Channel were approached by a member of the Management Committee of the Gurdwara on behalf of the Committee to put the scroll on.

The Sikh Federation (UK) held its last programme on Sunday 23 December at Guru Nanak Parkash Gurdwara, Harnall Lane, Coventry and the Sikh Channel carried a scroll mentioning the Sikh Federation (UK), so this is why some are asking if the Sikh Channel has an issue with the Shaheedi of Satwant Singh Ji and Kehar Singh Ji. Ofccom is sometimes used as an excuse, but this should apply equally to both channels.

Some have asked the person who called Sangat TV and called Amrik Singh to be named - the person that called was Sarabjit Singh Banur.

Latest on the Sikh Channel:

Yesterday (1 January 2013) a Gurdwara representative from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough spoke to a couple of Sikh Channel employees and asked why the scroll sent on 23 December had not yet started.

The employees said yesterday the Sikh Channel charge £200 for something to appear on the scroll for a 2-week slot. This is the first time we have heard of such charges. Others who have had something put on the Sikh Channel scroll may wish to comment on their experiences.

Anyway we said there is less than a week to go so let us know what it will cost and we will pay.

We emailed them the scroll again this morning before 9am, although they said yesterday that they already have the scroll. It has still not appeared.

We also sent them this morning the slides for the Promo, sound track and wording for the message to be recorded in Punjabi, we also requested for live coverage on Sunday 6 January - they confirmed they had nothing else booked at the same time. Again they said there would be charges (£700-800, although they may charge slightly less than this) and we said we were willing to pay.

Watch the space if the Sikh Channel will show the scroll, Promo and provide live coverage for Sunday 6 January from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough in return for a sizeable payment/donation?

If the Sikh Channel do not show the scroll, Promo and/or provide live coverage in return for money will we be justified to tell the Sangat in Slough and through other media who will be present about our experiences.

The behaviour to date by the Sikh Channel has been very unprofessional.

Latest twist was the Genral Secretary at the Gurdwara yesterday called Sangat TV studios and asked for the Promo for the Shaheedi programme not to be played. [it it is a fact was played very few times yesterday, hiopefully that will change today]. His mobile number was noted as well as the land line for the Gurdwara where the call(s) came from. Sangat TV called him back to confirm it was not a hoax call.

He was confronted with this information last night by local Singhs from the Sikh Federation (UK) and he said his mobile was mis-used while he was at the Gurdwara and may have left his phone in the Management Committee room.

He was told what Sarabjit Singh Banur had done earlier in the week in making calls to Sangat TV and Amrik Singh the Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) had told him in no uncertain terms the message to give to those who opposed this programme and the Sikh Federation (UK) - See you on Sunday 6 January.

The General Secretary confirmed he did not have a problem with the Promo or the programme organised by the Sikh Federation (UK) and this information was relayed by the local Singhs of the Sikh Federation (UK) to Sangat TV. However, the General Secretary was asked to clarify his position directly with Sanagat TV.

This is the sort of dirty tactics the Sikh Federation (UK) local SInghs are having to deal with as regards this Shaheedi programme booked almost a year ago. Please try and be present for the Arambh of the Akhand Paath Sahib at around 9.30am tomorrow on Friday 4 January and on Sunday 6 January, when no doubt some of these elements will try and disrupt the programme in some way.
