DJ Bobby Friction refuses to play songs with any mention of caste.

I think it is more to do with the recent rise of 'caste-based' songs such as "putt tarkhana da" (Dipps Bhamrah, also incidentally a BBC Asian Network DJ) and of course the many "putt chamara da" songs. This is to add to the already "putt jattan de" which everyone knows about.

So I think this is a sensible step in the right direction. Otherwise, on a request show, a listener will request one of the above songs which will inevitabley followed by a request for another one of the aforementioned songs and so on.

If caste-orientated songs aren't given the air-time, maybe it'll force songwriters to write about punjabi culture in the purest forms with deeper meaning?

I'm not his biggest fan, but I call it as I see it, and on this one, he's bang on!
