The inscription reads as Mehtab Singh has already translated. However the script appears to be of Nastaliq Persian type and of a much later period than the 15th century. The gaps between the words (like most old scripts gaps were not left between words of Arabic or Persian - nor were they with Gurmukhi for that matter) make me suspicious this is a later addition and probably penned in by William Ouseley himself who would annotate such items himself in Persian that he had learnt. Being a westerner at that time (early 19th century), he would have left gaps between individual words.

Art and percieving what our Gurus looked like is a natural curiosity. However if you want to have the true darshan of their images all you need to do is open up and look at the pages of the Guru Granth Sahib...

Is the place built for Guru Nanak Ji still there? I heard that it was damaged/destroyed during American bombing.

I see no coat and topi!

I can clearly see a dastar and full fledged beard. I believe this is a part of the whole painting which can be found in still in Baghdad and Sant Singh Maskeen Ji had seen it.

I think people need to be a little careful of making definitive comments about some internet posted image as authentic or not. Anyone remember the foolishness about the so called 'photo of M. ranjit Singh and Hari Singh Nalua'?

It needs to be looked into by people with the gian to make a judgment regarding authenticity.

i dont know too much about writing styles, but this are persian letters.

What is also interesting (for me) is that Bhai Mardana's rabab only has 4 strings whereas the Sikh Rabab, differed to other rababs by having 6. Should that mean anything?

I think the painting might be still original but the artist did not make it in presence of Guru Sahib.

Sant Singh Maskeen ji has seen it and believe me I am much older than you.

The style seems VERY modern to me. Renaissance or Post-renaissance, which was getting started around Baba Nanak's time in Italy.

I'm not saying that it is definitely this or that, but I do believe some reserve needs to be exercised by people for now.

And straight up - being an art expert is not amongst Sant Maskeen's many skills as far as I know. So quoting him as some evidence isn't on.
